http://english.people.com.cn/200612/04/eng20061204_328179.htmlMore than 70 militants were killed by the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Helmand province of southern Afghanistan, an ISAF spokesman said Monday.
In a four-hour battle backed by close air support on Sunday, ISAF killed 70 to 80 insurgents outside Musa Qala district center, Maj. Luke Knittig told Xinhua.
The conflict broke out after an ISAF patrol came under fire of militants, he said, adding there were no ISAF casualties.
Over 5,000 British soldiers are deployed in Helmand, composing the bulk of ISAF troops there.
Musa Qala had been a volatile region, where nearly 10 British soldiers were killed by militants during months before the forces' withdrawal.
