Bush 'deeply disappointed' by Bolton resignation

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Saying U.N. Ambassador John Bolton "served his country with extraordinary dedication and skill," President Bush expressed disappointment Monday that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee did not allow a vote on his nomination.

"I am deeply disappointed that a handful of United States Senators prevented Ambassador Bolton from receiving the up or down vote he deserved in the Senate," Bush said Monday in a statement. "They chose to obstruct his confirmation, even though he enjoys majority support in the Senate, and even though their tactics will disrupt our diplomatic work at a sensitive and important time. This stubborn obstructionism ill serves our country, and discourages men and women of talent from serving their Nation."

1. Ironic, considering that "stubborn obstructionism" is what Bolton was sent to perform.

Give him a medal George. You'll feel better.
and it will again be recorded for history that the people you rewarded were the most incompetent lot to ever work for this country.

6. Then why did Chimpy accept the resignation?
I mean, if Mr. Bolton enjoys the support of a majority of the Senators, and if he's such a well-qualified individual, what better way to show the bipartisan tone of Washington than to re-nominate Mr. Bolton for a full hearing in the new Senate, and a vote on his confirmation?

Or is Mr. Bush just blowing smoke out his ass, and CNN has once again decided to just report a lie knowing it's a lie, and pretend it has some basis in truth or reality?

11. I think you're on to something there.
How realistic is it to speculate that some of the diplomacy with these Arab nations got some firm feedback that Bolton needed to go. Seems odd to me that all of a sudden this guy who so singlemindedly believed the UN should be reformed and he had the answers should just quit.

13. Bush didn't have the votes
That majority he talks about is in reality a majority of the GOP side of the aisle.

that appointing a choleric freak with NO real diplomatic experience to such a sensitive post may have been INAPPROPRIATE.

Of course, he'll never admit that a completely UNSUITABLE appointment, trying to push the world around by bullyboy proxy, might not have been a good idea.

Of course, he'll never admit that the "obstructionist" Senators included some from his own damned party, otherwise that appointment would have been rubber stamped.

No, he'll just throw a temper tantrum and blame those mean old Democrats (you know, the grownups) for denying him another toy.

26. George always looked past the "advise" part of the Senate's obligation.
He never knew there was a part of the process that came before "consent."
