Dan Rather Owes FOX News an Apology
Monday, December 04, 2006

By Bill O'Reilly

.... DAN RATHER, ANCHOR, HDNET: I think it's fair to say, Bill, in fact I know it is, that FOX News operates in at least a somewhat different way than every other news organization that I know, that they have their "talking points," in which somebody in the hierarchy, whether this is Roger Ailes who runs the place or not, we know that they get talking points from the White House. And they can say well, we don't always take those talking points, but I think it's pretty clear that they had wished the election had gone another way.

Well, Mr. Rather's assertions are nonsense, untrue, seriously dopey. I've been here from the beginning, and have never seen a White House "talking points." — And I don't know anyone else who's seen one either.

I asked senior management if they have ever seen a White House talking points. No one had.

So we called Dan Rather to ask for some "documentation." He's on the road, but said he'd come on “The Factor” next week to explain. Can't wait. ....

3. How 'bout not calling Iraq a "civil war"
When every other reputable news organization, every major govt, and the Iraqis themselves do.

4. Alright, Oloofah...how about RNC talking points??
I distinctly remember Chris Matthews saying on Hardball that he had received republican talking points faxed over to him about whatever issue they were discussing at the time on his show. I'd bet Faux damn well works in tandem with the RNC if not the White House.

5. Billo wants a real journalist to come on "the Factor" and prove his assertions?
He really really wants that? I have to wipe away a tear of laughter. He really is the living end. I hope Mr. Rather walks out and hand Billo "Outfoxed."

As The Washington Post reported on July 11, Greenwald's film features "a handful of memos from a top FOX executive that appear to suggest tilting the news." Media Matters for America has analyzed 33 such internal FOX memos, issued by FOX News Senior Vice President, News Editorial John Moody and Los Angeles Bureau Chief Ken LaCoste between May 9 and June 3, 2003 and March 12 and May 5, 2004.

In the memos, some of which appear in Outfoxed, Moody instructs employees on the approach to take on particular stories. His instructions reflect a clear interest in furthering a conservative agenda and in supporting the Bush administration. The Post quoted Larry Johnson, identified by the paper as "a former part-time Fox commentator who appears in the film," describing the Moody memos as "talking points instructing us what the themes are supposed to be, and God help you if you stray." On July 13, Salon.com reviewed the film, and provided "some of the most notable excerpts" from the memos, referred to as "marching orders" by Jon DuPre, whom Salon identifies as "formerly of Fox News."

Moody on President George W. Bush:
The president is doing something that few of his predecessors dared undertake: tting the US case for mideast peace to an Arab summit. It's a distinctly eptical crowd that Bush faces. His political courage and tactical cunning ar rth noting in our reporting through the day (6/3/03).

Moody on Senator John Kerry (D-MA):
Ribbons or medals? Which did John Kerry throw away after he returned from Vietnam. This may become an issue for him today. His perceived disrespect for the military could be more damaging to the candidate than questions about his actions in uniform (4/26/04).
