Joe Barton Calls Global Warming Science ‘Absolute Nonsense,’ Vows To Fight CO2 Caps
For six years, Congress has done nothing to address the climate crisis, thanks in no small part to the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, “Smokey” Joe Barton (R-TX). The 110th Congress will have new leadership, but Barton has pledged to continue fighting against legislation intended to address the problem. Energy and Environment Daily (sub. only) has the story:

Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) said yesterday he intends to block Democrats from passing a mandatory federal cap on heat-trapping greenhouse gas emissions.

“I will be an active part of any leadership effort to prevent it passing in the House,” the outgoing chairman of the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee told reporters after speaking at an event hosted by the American Petroleum Institute and the Energy Department.

Barton says his action is justified because global warming science is “pretty weak stuff.” Barton added, “But for us to try to step in and say we have got to do all these global things to prevent the Earth from getting any warmer in my opinion is absolute nonsense. It’s not going to happen.”

Bought and paid for by energy and telecom.

Just remember, gravity is a theory too but it will put a world of hurt on anybody who tries to defy it.

10. If we control CO2 and slow global warming, how much longer
will it take to form that golden caramelized crust on the Earth's surface.
It's bad enough that you tree hugger's want to keep plant life, what next clean water?
Don't you want your great-grand children to be able to view Earth from distant space and see what we have all enjoyed during our lives? the pure beauty of what a raisin or a prune looks like.
How can you dare slow corporate profits on even a strong chance we may be heading for extinction.

11. Go ahead and keep running. Right off the cliff.
Pay no attention to idiots. It's a waste of energy. If he's right, I'll be delighted. But only a total fool would not heed the calls of the entire scientific community.

12. Well, he is right about one thing.
"...for us to try to step in and say we have got to do all these global things to prevent the Earth from getting any warmer in my opinion is absolute nonsense. It’s not going to happen."

NOTHING we do is going to prevent it from getting warmer. We've passed that point. All we can do is slow down the rate of warming, and THAT is going to take drastic action.

13. it doesn't really matter- we're totally screwed as it is...
China just keeps on pumping more and more CO2 into the air...and india...and US...and other developing and developed nations- until the TRULY and obviously visible catastrophic events start happenning on a regular and accelerating pace- nobody is going to have the will to make the sacrifices that NEEDED to be made a decade or more ago.

we're in for some exciting nature shows and thrill rides....and at least kharma will finally be able to take a big wet bite out of florida's mangy ass.
