5. He's my Senator.
I'm glad he's my Senator. I support him on most issues. I wish he would come around on same-sex marriage, but hell I'm used to that from allegedly progressive politicians. I don't support a potential Presidential candidacy for 2008.

Thanks for the group but I'm not sure I'd frequent it all that much.

I'll back whatever decision he makes regarding a run for the White House. From what I know about the man, it will make for an interesting primary should he decide to try. If anything at all, his presence in the primaries will bring a fresh set of dynamics that were sorely missing from the past two presidential contests. Al Sharpton brought a spark of life into every primary debate I've watched him participate in. Obama promises to bring in some of those same elements and much more. I'm looking forward to it.

18. From that Tribune editorial...
To run for president would be a big leap for someone who just a couple of years ago was commuting to Springfield as a state senator. There is a plausible case why Obama should bide his time and burnish his credentials for the future--plausible, but not persuasive. When a leader evokes the enthusiasm that Obama does, he should recognize that he has something special to offer, not in 2012 or 2016, but right now.

7. Political Suicide
I am very impressed by Obama and I believe that he can become a great president some day, but not in 2008. I believe that it would work against his future if he tries to run now.

The push should be for Al Gore. I am convinced that people understand now they made the wrong choice then and that Gore has been right all along.

Gore/Obama would be a great ticket.

Obama for Vice-President...

It is Baracks time. There are more "experienced" DC pols but I think the country is sick of DC pols. Time for an everyman and a true uniter.

(not that I want compromise or advocate it, I think Obama can push progressive issues and convince the RW to think they are a compromise that the majority wants, which they do.)

Count me in!

21. Rising, not peaked
...rising star still garnering credentials. Shrub came in with little experience in foreign affairs and now-disaster! Obama can use seasoning and a few more years experience or be the number two in a powerful team. Gore and Obama, perhaps. But , it is a little early to skip over two years of wrongs to be righted at this time. Let's see how he plays with the other kids in the sandbox and gets some qualty work of the people done.

25. This is the policy for most candidate groups here on DU.
DU group mission statements are agreed on by the contributing DUers who have, according to DU rules, proposed a new group and had it approved by the administrators for addition to the board. Most of the candidate groups are a kind of "safe haven" for DUers interested in, and generally supportive of, a candidate. There are countless opportunities, in many forums on the board, to debate and/or bash candidates.

...Personally, I think he is a good man with fine ideals, but it is not time for him. Perhaps as the VP candidate that takes the mantle when Evan Bayh finishes his second term.

29. Obama's popularity hasn't even begun to show yet, his number's can only increase with exposure!!
I believe there are more people who aren't aware of him then currently are excited about his winning the presidency -- it can only get better, (I think!)
