"Olbermann's Latest Low! Mean-spirited about Mary Cheney!"

Get a load of this one.

=====

I don't track Keith Olbermann's descents into mean-spirited bad taste systematically enough to definitively proclaim that he has charted a new low. Let's just say that he has once again indulged his proclivity to traffic for political purposes in the worst of ill-will.

Readers will recall during that during the 2004 presidential campaign, both members of the Dem ticket went clumsily out of their way to alert voters to the fact that Dick and Lynne Cheney have a gay daughter, Mary. In that same mean spirit, on tonight's Countdown Olbermann acidly observed: "the Vice-President is about to become a grandfather for the sixth time. Daughter Mary having a baby with her partner. You have to wonder if that is in the Christmas card for the conservative base."

The program later aired what might have been a straightforward news story about the coming baby. But Olbermann couldn't resist, in segueing to the next segment, taking a parting shot at the Cheneys as a "dysfunctional family that doesn't live by its own rules."

Merry Christmas to you too, Keith.

Finkelstein has a B.S. from Cornell University, an Ed.M. and a J.D. magna cum laude from SUNY Buffalo, and an LL.M. from Harvard Law. He lives in Ithaca, NY where he hosts "Right Angle," a local political talk show recently named 'Best of the Best' among local public-access shows, and writes food and wine stories for the Ithaca Times. He is currently seeking a publisher for his anti-terrorism thriller, "Albergue Olimpico."

2. That asshole lives in Ithaca, NY? He is not liked there, I assure you.
I'm from the Syracuse, NY area, about 45 minutes north of Ithaca. Ithaca is about as liberal a town as you can ever get. If you drive through it with a Bush bumper sticker, you'll get flipped off about a dozen times.

4. Is this snark ?
This reader recalls that the Dem candidates did not mention Mary's gayness until after the Repigs attempted to use it for politics.
And I am not sure that the Chaney family is dysfunctional, but they don't live by any rules.
This reader, who btw is a lesbian mother, has no problem with KO's commentary.....he is right on.

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to you too, Bluebear.

8. With all his degrees you would think he could recognize....
the hypocrisy Olbermann was aiming at. I guess all that education didn't leave Finkelstein with any common sense.

11. I hate how pervasive myths are in our society.
The right wing had the media umping all over the bull that Edwards made it clear Dick's daughter was a lesbian. That is patently false. Edwards only brought it up after Dick himself had mentioned it earlier in the campaign. He felt that it was no secret since Dick mentioned it and he actually thought Dick should be commended on supporting his daughter. The press went to town on that one stating how awful and sick the Dems were.

It is on record that Dick mentioned it way before John ever did. Now how can John be faulted for supporting statements Dick had already made? People need to actually educated themselves to the truth of matters in this country. I am sick of all of the myths spread about the Democratic party.
