An Inconvenient Truth - a convenient surprise
I just watched An Inconvenient Truth. I knew I would feel many emotions, among them anger, horror, and sadness. I did. What I didn't expect to feel was hope and relief. Well, I guess I might have expected some hope, otherwise this movie wouldn't have moved so many. Why the relief? Well, ever since President Gore began coming out with his firebrand speeches I had become more and more hopeful that he would run again for his rightful post but worried that he wouldn't or that he would and that he would become the neutered creature I forced myself to vote for before. It was hard sitting and waiting for whether he would and what it would be like. My waiting is over and I'm relieved. Sure, I'm going to have to wait for whether the public will be smart enough to get on board - to see if they will have the political will. But I know as of watching this movie that he will run and that he will not be muzzled again. I know because I recognize the moral imperative and it is quite obvious that he does as well. He will run because it is the right thing to do. I'll still happily fill out any petitions "To get Al Gore to run" but I know he will run whether I do that or not. It is a weight off of me to no longer be in that waiting pattern.

Before this movie, I waited and wondered and because of my tendency, I worried. I'm not worried any longer. Not about that.

Alas, my big issue/worry as of yesterday is what car I will be buying to replace my treasured Maxima which just bit the big one. I kind of knew what my answer would be if I watched this movie and of course, it is. I'm going to take a bigger financial hit than I care to because a Prius is a damn expensive car but I will find the money. Because it is an inconvenience rather than an impossibility, I will take the financial hit because it is important for me to do so. I know that not everyone can do that so those of us that can, should.

1. I bought a copy and watched it for the first time this weekend.
I've decided to go out and buy a few more and send them to a few people with their Xmas cards.

(AP) NORTHGLENN, Colo. A Northglenn man takes his Christmas lights seriously.

Xcel Energy has had to install two extra transformers to handle the load from Craig Worley's lights. Both the front and rear of the house are illuminated with holiday scenes.

The address is 140 East 106th Avenue.

5. With all the crap around this guy's house, he might not find it until Spring.
Better ring the doorbell, put it on his doorstep and run!

2. Yes, he's great in that movie - so focused and passionate...
Before you buy a Prius, check out the Honda Civic hybrid also. My MIL has one, it's quite nice and I think it's very similar to the Prius in the energy department. I'm not sure about the price differences, there may not be any, but it's worth a look. My FIL has an Accord hybrid which is also very nice, although a bit less energy efficient, but it is more expensive. I'm not saying a Prius is worse than the Honda - I like the Prius too! - I'm just offering the suggestion, in case you weren't aware Honda had hybrids too.

4. For around town get a scooter
I got a honda scooter for my birthday this year (i am 50!) and I love it! Gets 100 miles per gallon of gas. Only goes up to 40mph so can only go on local roads but perfect for that. And easy to get parking space too and everyone in town loves watching me drive by. I have extra basket on it and do my shopping with it all summer. Its snowing here now so I am glad I work close and only have to drive suv a few miles.

6. I live in the boonies
So, that isn't an option and it rains about 6-7 months a year here so a regular motorcycle wouldn't be a good option either.

7. Yeah, I've been checking each of them but they are all about the same price
One of my partners has a tricked out Prius though and I love it though I have no need for all the extra bells and whistles. I'm actually thinking about getting a 2003 prius (that's back before the redesign which was more about looks and style and extra storage than actual improvements).
