I found this on ABC Online front page. You click on the link and it brings you to the photo gallery. Click to the second picture and you get this.

"Kirstie Alley: Still Bikini Ready?

Showing she's still a "Fat Actress," Kirstie Alley sports rolls of fat on her midriff and a turkey waddle under her chin while shopping with son William, 14, and daughter Lillie, 12, at The Grove shopping mall in Los Angeles. Wearing a new blond hairdo, the 55-year-old Jenny Craig diet pitchwoman has gone public with her weight loss battle, appearing on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" just a few weeks ago in a bikini."

1. Absolutely
I agree - I can't understand why a major network in this day and age would show someone with fat rolls and turkey waddles. Why can't they just keep showing us Paris Hilton instead?

6. what's disgusting to me is that a 55-year old woman is portrayed as needing to
*BE* bikini ready.

hey folks -- women's bodies aren't just for other's visual pleasure. sure, be cardio-healthy -- but, give us a f'n break. there's more to womanhood than wearing a bikini.

AND... looky here... as a woman, i find men with a little extra weight much more attractive than their lanky counterparts. Greg Giraldo, i'm talkin' to you!

9. She looks good to me, actually.
I like that appearance far better than the mud-encrusted, torso-bound, lip-greased, foot-contorted perversion of 'beauty' we see too often today. To me, she looks huggable and ready to enjoy a top-down ride in the open air.

Edited on Tue Dec-12-06 01:55 PM by NRaleighLiberal
I've not watched a show on one of the big 4 in years. In fact, my TV's major use is for the many Netflix movies we rent.

Turn off the TV - it is poison for the brain (and the addiction for the brain-dead!)

34. Personally, my problem is that most of America seems to think the trivial gossip IS "the news".
Judging by the Supermarket Aisle, you'd think the only war that's going on is between Britney Spears' crotch shots and Brangelina.

23. She's 55 years old..sheez.. If she had a taut neckline, they would
abuse her for having had "enhancement" surgery..

It's a no-win situation.

Note to celebs.. If you are goin' out in public, be prepared for the paparazzi-scum to look for your worst angle..:(

beauty is skin-deep..and professional makeup artists/lighting directors can make all the difference in the world.

shame on the scummy media types who love to build 'em up..just to tear 'em down

24. You Know as a big girl myself
who cares. I mean we are so used to the ideal of women. Hello! She has had two kids and she is 55 years old. Beautiful in her own skin and what the hell is the problem? So she doesn't have botox skin and injection lips with air brushing photos to make her look like she is 29. She went shopping with her kids and she lost weight to get healthy...not to seem like she was a model. Anyone who has lost mass amounts of weight will not look like a toned Victoria's Secret model. They will look like real people who don't get plastic surgery. Which to be honest I am sick of. Good for her. If you want to have surgery thats always an option and we can do it and feel good about it. I have no issues with that...at all. I do have issues with the press and the over all media trying to portray women as failing if they don't look like they are 21 for the rest of their life and acting like they grew up and acted like they are 23. We grow up, our body changes and we look like real WOMEN. Not Barbie dolls. Thank God for that.

P.S. I know your post was not agreeing with the ABC article. Just my sound off about it.

29. Anyone else catch the irony reflected on ABC and the author of the article here?

It appears to me that the thrust of the article is that a spokesperson for a weight loss program may be carrying around a few extra pounds of excess baggage and to them it might seem a bit sanctimonious.

Consider .... ABC is in the multi-media business. They communicate with people. They use words as their primary tools of the trade. And they don't seem to know the difference between wattle and waddle or under what circumstances to use which one. So it would seem ABC is equally guilty of not being true to form.

And actually, I think she looks pretty damn good. If they want a pinup they should buy a copy of Playboy.

31. No dilemma.. She says she lost 70 lbs.. She STARTED at a pretty high number
To look at her on "Fat Actress", she had to have been pushing 250 or more, so even after losing 70, she never claimed to be back at her 120-something weight she used to be.

250 minus 70 is still 180..not exactly svelte.. so she's not trying to "put something over" on anybody.

Shame on ABC..entertainment or not..it's still rather shameful to make fun of someone who's not trying to pretend she's an icon and who's a pretty open person.

30. Relax, folks, it's ENTERTAINMENT!!!
As an Entertainer, she (along with professional athletes, pop singers, TeeVee and Movie Stars, etc) puts up with a little ridicule now and then in exchange for not being put in prison (or executed) if she should smack around, slit the throats of, or gun down people. They ENTERTAIN us so we do not want to hold them to the same standards we hold to ourselves.

I mean, after all where would we be without our ENTERTAINERS? We might actually have to think and entertain ourselves...
