Military meets, exceeds recruiting goals
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061213/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/military_recruiting

WASHINGTON - Though Americans are increasingly pessimistic about the war in Iraq, the Pentagon said Tuesday it is having success enlisting new troops. The Navy and Air Force met their recruiting goals last month while the Army and Marine Corps exceeded theirs, the Defense Department announced.
The Army, which is bearing the brunt of the work in Iraq, did the best. It signed up 6,485 new recruits in November compared with its target of 6,150 — meaning 105 percent of its goal.

All the services turned in similar performances in October as well, meaning they so far are meeting their goals for the 2007 budget year that began Oct. 1.

1. Well, the Navy and Air Force probably had a combined goal of five!!!!!!
And these poor kids going to the other services are counting on it all being over but the crying by the time they finish DEP, go active, go through bootcamp and advanced training, and go on to their units.

They may have misjudged....

3. Well, there's the extra 20,000 troops to Baghdad
I wonder what kind of lies the recruiters had to tell in order to convince these kids they won't end up in Iraq?

5. I'd like to hear what their prior goals were, for comparison
Did they meet their goals because they lowered their numbers?

8. Of course, they've tried to keep it on the "down-low" but they have
dropped the standards, dropped the original goals, raised the age limit, and offered huge signing bonuses (I know some are in the $50,000+ range). They have even offered people currently in $1000, then raised it to $2000 for each person they sign up. They've also about doubled the number of recruiters over the last couple of years.
