I thought this article was quite amusing;

Canadian prof shocked by Holocaust gathering
Updated Wed. Dec. 13 2006 9:22 AM ET

CTV.ca News Staff

A Canadian professor says he gladly accepted an invitation from Iran's hardline Islamist government to speak at an international conference questioning the Holocaust.

But Dr. Shiraz Dossa, a soft-spoken political science professor at Nova Scotia's St. Francis Xavier University, said he doesn't put himself in the same category as some of the "hacks and lunatics'' attending the event.

The two-day gathering drew some of the world's most notorious Holocaust deniers, Nazi sympathizers and scholars such as former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke.

<snip>

Dossa told The Globe he was alarmed to discover that Holocaust deniers played such a visible role at the conference.

"I did not know exactly who was coming to the conference, and frankly, I think these people are hacks and lunatics," he said. "I frankly wouldn't even shake hands with most of them."

Shocked to find so many Holocaust deniers at a conference on the Holocaust sponsored by Ahmadinejad and Iran? That's what I call being a trifel naive.

2. For being an 'expert' in the field
he sure is uninformed and clueless then.

3. No shit...
That's like being "shocked" to find a toilet in a bathroom.

An appropriate analogy for that conference and
its participants.

6. A POLITICAL SCIENCE professor was shocked by this?
Maybe Iran isn't his specialty.

Maybe reality isn't his specialty.

7. On second though...
Edited on Wed Dec-13-06 05:01 PM by hughee99
Was he really surprised? Given that everyone seems to have seen this conference for what it was, yet Dr. Dossa was surprised by it, it it possible that after going to the conference (knowing what it was going to be all along) the only way to salvage ANY CREDIBILITY was to claim that...
1. He was shocked at what he saw
2. The people there were lunatics and hacks.
3. He wouldn't even interact with most of them so far as to even shake hands.

After all, now that he's already been to the conference and what happened there it's a matter of record not just a matter for speculation like it was before, what's he really going to say? "I had a great time, David Duke and I got really drunk on tequila shooters, he hooked up with an ugly girl who's dad is, like, super rich and I went goat tipping with Ahmadinejad."?
