Unofficial DU Straw Poll #5 (12/12/06): Results

Here are the results of the DU '08 presidential straw poll I posted on Tuesday, 12/12. The vote count this time was a relatively low 124 votes: from now on, I'll post them on weekends when more DUers are online.

DU still likes Al Gore, though not as much as in previous polls (6/4/06, 6/25/06, 8/2/06 and 11/11/06). This time around Gore registered 41 votes for 33% of the total (compared with 45%, 34%, 45% and 46% in the previous polls). Second place, as usual, belongs to Wes Clark, who matched his percentage in the last three polls with 34 votes/27% (14%, 28%, 28%, 28%). In his first appearance in a smoogatz poll, Dennis Kucinich stormed into third place a day after officially announcing his candidacy, scoring 19 votes or 15%. Fourth place went to Evan Bayh (8/6%), who had received a total of four votes in three earlier polls (go figure). Obama's support increased marginally, at 7/6% compared to just 3% last month. Edwards slipped from 9% in November to just 5% this time around, tying Kerry for sixth place. Meanwhile Clinton, Richardson and Vilsack rounded out the field with just 3% between them.

This month's surprises (for me, anyway) were Kucinich, who's won himself a permanent spot in the poll (until the first couple of primaries, at least), and Bayh: one wonders if the eight votes for Bayh aren't indicative of poll fatigue on the part of some of our snarkier DUers. But hey, you never know--maybe it's a sign of the DLC's resurgence (or just surgence).
