How do animals instinctively tell when something bad is about to happen?

When there are rumblings beneath the earth, before earthquakes or tornadoes, animals will instinctively pick it up and will sometimes react very nervously or unpredictably. I believe we humans react similarly but we don't always notice because we cover it up with jokes and charades, etc. I sense something similar happening today. Something that is beyond our present comprehension. Does anyone else sense something similar?

I'm pretty sure that odor is wafting across the entire country, if not the world.

So, if bad news happens today somewhere on the planet, your sense will have been accurate?

that is unexplained. And will usually be close enough to affect you - not necessarily a typhoon in China or an earthquake in Iran - although I do think we are all connected as humans and what affects one affects us all...

Why not try changing the "channel", if you can? :)

There are sounds, smell, vibrations and more around us constantly that we are simply unable to detect due to the limited nature of our sensory organs. Other animals also don't suffer from our social conditioning to ignore sensory information that cannot be verified by those limited organs (or by instruments that can measure that information in a way accessible to our limited organs).

SUBSIDING STORM: A geomagetic storm that sparked Northern Lights as far south as Arizona last night is subsiding. The cause of the storm: a coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth on Dec. 14th. Our planet's magnetic field reverberated for more than 24 hours after the impact.

Another CME is on the way, but it won't cause such a widespread display. The incoming cloud was launched yesterday by an X1-explosion above sunspot 930. The blast was not squarely Earth-directed, so the CME's impact will be a glancing one. Nevertheless, sky watchers should remain alert for auroras when the CME arrives on Dec. 16th.

was crying, whimpering in her crate last nite. I thought she might need to pee, but nuttin'. It was weird that she was vocal. Very strange.

A week ago, about four or so in the morning out two yapping dogs suddenly started running through the house barking non stop. After everyone was awakened we started looking from room to room for the cause of their barking but could find nothing. Thinking someone might be in our yard walking around my husband looked out the front window and saw black smoke coming from the house across the street. He grabbed a coat and ran to knock on their door but just as he did, the front door opened and the woman and her six year old granddaughter came running out coughing. We called the fire department and it was eight or so before we could go back to bed. We offered them a place to stay and fixed hot coffee for her. There was much smoke damage mostly from the berber carpet, every room was smoked up and unlivable. She had gone to bed and had left the fireplace on(gas) and somehow it had ignited some X-mas wrapping paper nearby causing the fire. We still think our dogs must have smelled something.
