One sure sign that BushCo really does fear the new congress.
The price of gasoline has not already gone back up over three dollars a gallon. The grown-ups are back in power again, to look into things like gouging and record profit taking. If the GOP had maintained control of congress I think Christmas would have been the only excuse the Oil Giants needed, to raise the price back up to the $3.00 plus mark.

Even after OPEC announced a cut of another 500,000 barrels a day of oil production, day before yesterday, the price per barrel STILL fell about a dollar and a quarter yesterday. Six months ago an OPEC announcement like that, would have triggered a 20 cent jump at the pumps overnight.

1. maybe so, but it's well on the way

2. OOOOPs, I just found out that it went up 20 cents a gallon here...
Edited on Tue Dec-19-06 06:42 AM by Hubert Flottz
yesterday afternoon.

Still, I think it would already be back to three dollars a gallon, if EXXON/BUSHCO still thought they had a free hand like before, to gouge.

I think that the 500,000 barrels a day that OPEC just cut, was in addition to another recent 1,200,000 barrel a day cut and still the price per barrel is staying close to the $60.00 mark.

4. they'll have to game the system (again) to get it back up to 3
create some type of emergency and drop it into the echo chamber.

Something like, oh, bombing Iran. :-(

Any good news at all, is a very rare thing, since Bush came to town.

10. You got that right. I still can't believe that we are stuck with the likes of him
and coming off a Bill Clinton administration even makes it worst.

5. Wait til the Democrats are in the House
that is when the gas prices will go up, not because of anything *they* do or don't do, but because the people blame whoever is in power for gas hikes. If Ex-Mob-Shell spin it that they must raise prices because of the Democrats (spooky environmental laws, gas tax hikes, or my favorite, "those nasty Democrats are forcing us to use cleaner processes...boo-hoo") an awful lot of people will believe it. This will resonate until the 2008 elections.

8. That is why we voted for some OVERSIGHT!
Congress MUST protect itself from that kind of partisan attack, buy producing some concrete results, in the oversight department! And they know it!

9. It has gone up about 35 cents a gallon here since the lowest
price it fell to, a couple of weeks before the election. About 20 cents higher now, than at election time.

11. I buy my gas at the supermarket
With my card, I get 5 cents off per gallon. Additionally, when I buy at least $50 worth of groceries, I get a coupon for an additional 10 cents per gallon off. The prices are pretty good. Since it is my closest supermarket, it is convenient. I usually combine it with a trip to both the store and my gym, all in the same location. All about 1 mile from my house.

12. Still, gas is way more expensive
gas is way more expensive now as compared to when Bush took office, even with discounts and shopping cards.

15. I'm of two minds on this subject. Not that Bush hasn't manipulated
gas prices. My issue is that of making gas cheap. Shouldn't we really be wanting gas to be expensive to force car manufactureres to develop more energy efficiency?

That being said, I do what I can with my local Stop and Shop!

13. I go to this web site and look for the best deal when I need to fill up.
http://www.gasbuddy.com/

These local dealers are gouging us here too. It really does pay off to shop around.

16. Agreed. I do compare prices and my supermarket still comes out
better than other places, when you figure in my two discounts.

14. economy pundits
were perplexed over the christmas sales. Not as high as expected.

they are flummoxed, don't understand it because the "economy is doing so well" and "gas/heating fuel is cheaper"...

:eyes: once again they fail to realize the economy is only doing so well for a few people, and gas/heating fuel isn't cheap

last year I spent about $250 for christmas presents. this year, about $150. why? need money for gas for my car so I can get to work, and need the money for heating fuel. We are saving some on heating fuel by using wood stove as much as possible. Increases in fuel costs trickle down to increases in consumer goods/groceries

heating fuel is $2.30/gal, and gas just went up to $2.35/gal

17. The "Wise Men" in Washington use fuzzy math like Kenny Boy...
used, when they count the national beans. Bean counting 101, was another class the pResident flunked out of.

The rising cost of fuel, is reflected in the price of everything you buy. You're not just getting gouged at the gas pump...increasing fuel prices, means the decreasing of the value of the dollar.
