Bush's 'solution' for Iraq - Throw more men at it

President George W. Bush confirmed Wednesday he may increase American combat troops in the country despite the private objections of senior military commanders.

Bush, in a year-end White House news conference, said he will approve a short-term troop surge in Iraq only if he is convinced there is a “specific mission” to regain control of areas ravaged by sectarian violence.

But even as he declared the U.S. was “not succeeding nearly as fast as I had wanted,” Bush told war-weary Americans he remains confident of ultimate victory in Iraq.

“I want the enemy to understand that this is tough task, but they can't run us out of the Middle East. They can’t intimidate America,” Bush said. “Victory is still achievable.”
