1. Denver's Vigil
Edited on Thu Dec-21-06 02:12 AM by bobbolink
This year’s service is scheduled for 5:30 - 6:30 PM Thursday, December 21st on the steps of the City and County Building 1437 Bannock Street in Denver.

Each year at the end of December, Colorado Coalition for the Homeless holds a memorial service and Candlelight Vigil to remember those who have lived on the streets and died. The event, held at the City and County Building in Denver, is one of the most meaningful nights of the season drawing several hundred community members concerned about the homeless. The service ends with a reading of each of the names of people who died and a response from the attendees who repeat, “we will remember.”

The vigil reminds people that life on the street takes a tremendous toll and that the health of most homeless people is much worse than that of the average American. For individuals and community members, this annual event is a time to remember friends and rededicate themselves to the fight against homelessness and poverty. CCH staff often remember those who have come into the clinic and their offices.

Thank you, tofunut, for posting this reminder.

Unfortunately, it's not a popular event, and Denver tomorrow is still going to be snowed under. :(

We will remember.

9. Thank you, tofunut! I've attended these vigils most years, but... this year
there's a bit too much of the white stuff to navigate.

As a matter of fact, I wonder whether it will be held tonight...?

Thank you again so much for posting this!

It's never a good time to be homeless but as I sit beside my warm fire while the winter rain pours down, I think about those on the streets.
