4. I watched not knowing what was happening
flipping through the channels i was on cspan I thought for a minute it was an aircraft carrier launching an attack.

6. Followed it all afternoon via the web in hopes of a local, White Sands touchdown....

Been a LONG time since I really paid attention...and it was really a THRILLING touchdown. The cockpit view down the runway was fantastic!!

The weather around here has been crappy all day, I didn't think the conditions would be good enough to be able to land here. Glad everything went well.

10. I'm no astronaut but I've been a pilot for 40 years, often land in weather
way worse than what they had at the Cape today. Hell, Category 3 approach/landings are routinely done with zero ceiling & visibility. Seems odd to me they need such high minimums...:eyes:

12. Nope. Once they do the de-orbit burn they're committed to whatever piece of real estate
happens to sit underneath the re-entry path. Pretty much, anyway, although if push came to shove, a good pilot (which those people obviously are) SHOULD be able to land the thing on any of a dozen other places. Not that it would please NASA if they did, obviously. ;-)
