The Barkley Lake Water District commissioners continued discussion of a new tank at Pete Light Springs at their December 12 meeting.
Engineer Ricky Oakley proposed two tower types, a traditional legged tower, and a composite tower with a concrete pedestal with a tank above. Oakley observed that one composite tank company’s study said that the cost of painting could appreciate three percent annually. This could justify the $180,000 additional investment in the composite tank. Oakley estimated that the tank would require repainting every 10-15 years.
“They are estimating a three percent increase in the cost of painting each year, but I don’t know if we can predict costs that far out. I may be worth exploring. After two paintings, we may be close to breaking even with the additional cost of the composite tank,” said Oakley.
“We may not need it if Muslims have their say,” said Commissioner Stan Bremmer.Commission Chairman Terry Lee McNichols said, “I am assuming it is a personal comment.” McNichols was asked if he felt that the comment had been racist in nature. “I didn’t take it as that, but I have no other comment.”
