Medicare was started because too many families lost everything taking care of an elderly member and were left with crippling debt after that person died.

Maybe Freepers are so heartless they hate their grandparents and would ignore them to death, but sane people are not like that. Perhaps talking to them about the money angle would cut through the self righteous indignation at having people who have worked a lifetime but can no longer do so be taken care of by social security and medicare.

There are too many ads for the purple pill on TV and things to make males hard. I bet in Canada with the lower cost of drugs they do not have many ads on TV .......

...but the access to REAL medical care makes over-the-counter pharmaceuticals seem kind of 'trashy'. Ironically, the largest selling OTCP's in Canada are the ones, that sneak through the Canadian prohibition, on cable TV serving all the heaviest populated areas of Canada.

Personally, I'm kind of conflicted about this....

On the road to public health, taking power away from doctors is a good thing, BUT giving it to BIG-PHARMA-CORP is potentially, worse. If they can turn heart disease into indigestion, and cure it with the "purple" OTCP, you have to give them credit.

However, once people realize that they are a lot healthier NOT watching those ad's, they begin to feel a sense of control in regard to their own health.

as far as "complaining about the price of the stuff that's keeping them alive" they have every right to. The price of so many drugs is outrageous and when that poster becomes geezor/geezeratrice he/she will probably be screaming the loudest. I am very thankful for the "disproportionally Jewish medical researchers" and actually wish there were more, as they do a marvelous job.

I'd swear I read that in their rules somewhere.

He was pointing out that senior citizens were being kept alive by the drug companies they complain about. He's actually praising the Jewish people here. I'm sure he's still a jerk, though.

I think we should have nationalized health care myself so we get all the benefits of drugs without paying for the unnecessary profits and advertising.

Here is a pro-corporate FR automaton suggesting using "big government" to run "free enterprise" out of business because old people are just too damn selfish for the good of society. Doesn't this sound like some kind of misguided anarchist utopia? I'd hardly expect to see this from Free Republic.

On a more personal level, I'm sure when this guy is old, infirm and a "burden on society" that he'll pull the plug on himself out of patriotic and communitarian unselfishness :sarcasm:
