Can we reign the mad man in or is he going to cause such a shit storm in the Middle East that it will take years to get out of?

it is also appropriate here:

My advice to the world is "DUCK and COVER".

4. The thought of 2007
gives me complete confidence in the future. We have many difficult issues to deal with. And we are fully capable of doing so.

12. Right!
Americans have been lied to since they were itty-bitty little children. They have been convinced that "No!" is more powerful than "Yes!" In 2007, we will make great progress in exposing that lie. And when that lie is exposed, and the truth takes root, the fear of the future disolves.

13. Good sign.
You said "Morning," not "mourning."

It's getting better all the time.

5. I am resigned to the possibility
that his actions will bring a major catastrophe. This does not mean I'm not doing what I can to try and stop it -- but I would suggest that everyone have two month's supply of food and water at home, just in case.

6. I fear an attack on Iran
.... and never has there been more justification for impeachment.

Out of control presidents starting foreign wars.. THAT is why our forefathers wrote into the constitution the ability of the people to Impeach.

8. Of course Iran will be attacked, Dick Cheney has set that in motion
...along with like minded individuals in the military, government and corporations. It will happen and when it does, that same thing will be learned about Iran, which we found out about Iraq. All justification for an attacks/invasion will be based on lies coming directly from the White House. That is why impeachment must begin immediately. Bush and Cheney lie, period!

Hopeful about investigations turning up stuff about bushco that will shock even us here at DU, and galvanize the nation to get rid of the bastards.

15. Just the Middle East?
In my book, that qualifies as extreme optimism.

All sorts of challenges face us (trade, the domestic economy, environmental degradation, diminishing resources, corporate hegemony, etc), and the neocons can't get past the hard-on they have for going after the "axis-of-evil" -- and other windmills.

16. The 110th needs to have balls of steel.
Bush will never pull troops out of Iraq.

Democratic Congressmen are going to have to face the political fallout of cutting of the Pentagon's flow of money and defunding the war in Iraq.

They'll be accused of not "supporting the troops", and denounced as traitors and as Al Queda collaborators in every major media outlet. (more so than now)

As to Iran: It's a race against time. Both Bush and Ahmadinejad seem hell-bent on a slaughter.
Bush believes that the U.S. is already at war with Iran in Iraq. In his eyes the insurgents are Iranian proxies.

It's crucial that the investigations into BushCo™ crimes are swift and fruitful.
There either needs to be a single, shocking "smoking gun" revelation, or simply an undeniable, enormous mound of evidence to muster enough votes for conviction in the Senate.

The clock is ticking. No one knows when U.S. ships in the gulf will be "fired upon" by the Iranians, or when a Pearl Harbor type event happens at home.

Any U.S./Iranian war would be swift and brutal, and could quickly escalate to the use of nuclear weapons to back up a U.S. military that's been through the grinder for three years.

The only way I can see this outcome averted is by impeachment and removal from office, or by Tehran successfully testing a nuclear weapon.

Here's hoping against hope for Peace.

17. I believe he will attack Iran...
And then Syria, and Congress will let him so as to not appear to be unpatriotic...especially should the Neocons working this from behind the scenes prod Ahmanedejad to attack Israel. That is their wet dream as far as I am concerned, and Israeli generals are already warmongering. Sanctions have also already been voted on by the UN, and Ahmanedejad has already gone to the the Euro and defied the sanctions. This is going the same way Iraq did, so it isn't hard to figure out how far this will go as both he and Bush are evil men bent on war, who have now based on recent elections in Iran as well been given a message that they do not have the peoples' support in the majority. Two resentful loose cannons with the reigns of power... NOT GOOD.

I truly try to be hopeful and think that Americans on the whole will wake up from their stupor and finally call for this man to be removed from an office he never deserved to be in which should have happened LONG AGO. People simply do not understand what we are dealing with here and, Ithink it calls for an intervention. I am very anxious about this and the affects it will have on our world. I mean, at this point, will we even have an election in 2008? That is why I think we should be discussing more about the PRESENT, because these campaign diversions are giving them good cover.

This year will have to be the year that the AMERICAN PEOPLE stand up and tell Congress NO BARGAINS, and no backing down from doing what they morally must do for this country and this planet... and that includes doing the one thing that will help to ensure our future security: IMPEACHING and removing the evil. I only hope it is not too late.

19. Given that bushco doesn't act/react to reality... Yes
there seems to be great reason for ongoing concern. They act extra-legally (regularly defying the constitution) and feeled justified in doing so. They are not constrained by reality. They are out of control and full of hubris and self-justification. A little thing like not having a majority in Congress isn't likely to fully constrain bushco.

The only good news in the possible making - is that actions attempted and taken in the next year + will further take the drapes off the public's eyes to the reality of the malfeasance of not only this Administration -but to the contemporary GOP that has (and continues) to enable the admin. If the public doesn't recognize the problem and threat is much greater than bush/cheney - then in a very short order .... another bushlike figurehead will emerge to continue the work started by these bat-sh*t crazy SOBs. Let's just hope that additional damage rendered by the admin in the coming year is limited in scope.

20. He is limited in what he can do now
With the House and the Senate in Dem hands its going to be difficult for him. He can order the armed forces into places but he needs the money and confirmation of the congress to do anything real. If he goes utterly ape shit they can snap him back by yanking on his chain.
