Sun Times: "Obama, on vacation in Hawaii, has decided to run"
Edited on Mon Dec-25-06 10:35 PM by Cheney Killed Bambi
This bombshell is dropped in the middle of this column about Obama putting his campaign headquarters in Chicago:

Obama, on vacation in Hawaii, has decided to run. He has said he will announce his decision in January.

This is stated quite definitively in a "news" article by a Chicago paper. Seems pretty explosive to me, since the official word is that Obama is still thinking about it (although the tea-leaves suggest pretty strongly that he's running).

1. If it's Lynn Sweet, Obama is running.
She is a pretty good political reporter, has lots of contacts. Had it been Michael Sneed, it'd still be gossip column speculation.

2. I see you're from Forest Park, IL
So that probably means you know what you're talking about when it comes to Chicago reporters. Thanks for the insight.

3. Just a couple miles west of the city....

10 miles due west of downtown. On a clear day, I can see the Sears Tower.

I am a Tribune reader, but I do respect Lynn Sweet. It'll be interesting to see tomorrow's Tribune. Today's was mostly advertising. :eyes:

4. I live right between Chicago and Iowa
In Rockford. By the Wisconsin border. You can be sure if this is true, which I suspect (or maybe just really hope) it is, then I will be volunteering.

5. In Rockford.
I am south of you, near White Pines state park.

How do you like your mayor?

7. Mr. Republican????
Well, he is quiet. I don't pay that much attention to the local stuff these days.
So, if you are south, you know what this place is like. Beige town.

8. Tee hee!
Quite right. I do so much hope this "rock star" crap settles down so he can be evaluated in light of his ability to be president, not just buzz.
I am sick of younger candidates, unpolished diamonds in the rough-or nuts. I am still not happy with the notion.

9. I have a feeling
that those that underestimate will in time be much surprised.
There is just more than they give him credit for. I was watching his talk in Chicago recently and during the q and a he was asked about a variety of topics and he had a depth of understanding that was impressive. He also answered in a way that made it so understandable to the common person.
As my senator who got alot of buzz I'd watch on cspan if they carried something he was in to see. I came away more and more impressed and I already was in 04

10. I have been impressed with Obama since the first time I heard
him speak. I ran around the area where I live-very rural-and pestered everyone I knew and met to at least listen to him and vote for him and Kerry.

As much as I admire him and respect his ability and ideals, I am still very uncomfortable with the notion of him as president. There are lots of good things I can see, but, as I look around at the veritable plethora of excellent candidates (aren't we lucky?) there is some strong talent I'd like to see take the tiller to steer us out of this mess.
