Will a Dem congress be able to stop the Bush/Cheney machine of death and corruption?
Edited on Fri Dec-29-06 02:42 PM by Cyrano
I fear that the Dems might only be able to slow down the next two years of death and destruction. But I can't see how they can totally stop the lethal criminal activities that have been committed by Bush&Co over the past six years.

Congress controls the purse strings since our Constitution gives them that right. But they won't cut off funds for this unjust, disgraceful "war on terror" because they believe that would make them easy targets for the thugs in the '08 elections.

Regarding the "outsourcing" of wars and disasters in Afghanistan and Iraq, do you really believe that Halliburton, Bechtel, KBR, Blackwater, and other corporations that deserve the label, "Friends of Bush/Cheney," won't go on getting paid for the murder and torture of Iraqis and others? Not to mention that one man who is profiting is Dick Cheney, ex-CEO and current stockholder of Halliburton.

And then there's the Bush family and friends who own a non-public cash cow called The Carlyle Group.

Halliburton (and possibly Carlyle) even have contracts for "helping" in the recovery of New Orleans, an American city that is still in ruins, is still being ignored, and may never recover.

But to get back to the point, the Bush/Cheney administration can easily stonewall two years of Dem investigations until they leave office and cash in on they're plundered loot.

So how do we arrive at some justice concerning our Criminal-in-Chief and our Vice-Criminal in Chief (among others)? I wish I knew.

1. Well....yes....if the * cabal stonewalls etc...then the Dems will
have no choice but to impeach the whole *cabal....

I sincerely believe the Dems will try to work with them in the beginning...I believe that it will be a futile effort....The American people will demand Impeachment....

3.  I don't think so .
I can't really say how many dems are true to the cause of actual change , it will take years to know this with all the hidden views . They are people and all are motivated in different ways .

I hear the people will change it if they don't , well bumper stickers and protest marches are not going to do it .

Lokk I simply don;t trust politicians at all , not after all these years of trust and lies .

6. My greatest fear is that Holy Joe will start caucusing with the ReThugs.
That will take the senate away from us, but the Dems will still hold the House of Representatives.

Having lived in CT, I just can't understand how Lieberman was reelected to a seat in the senate. I know that there are, and will always be, differences in peoples perceptions of candidates.

Nonetheless, I find it inconceivable that a sane region of the country such as Connecticut let this slippery, opportunistic man con them into giving him another term in the senate and the power to decide our country's future.

5. I was listening to Bernie Sanders today on Thom Hartmann and
he laid out many of the things that he believed Congress would address, discuss and debate. He gave me some hope that the pendulum will start swinging to the left. I don't know how they are going to stop Bush from vetoes and signing statements, but maybe there is a way to pressure him. I get the impression they may hold impeachment over his head as a way to get him to cooperate. When Nancy Pelosi said that they wouldn't impeach perhaps this is the stick they are going to use to keep him in his cage.
