Is the prisoner a violent thug? Or some kid who was toking up at a concert?
Half the people in prison, if rightfully convicted, belong there. Half are political prisoners of the drug war who are not and have never been threats to society.

If they're the outcome of trials like Saddam's they are.
If they're the outcome of a lawful, just and properly-conducted process sanctioned by society and in accordance with humanitarian norms, they're not.
