Saddam already a martyr
Iraqis attend viewing at Saddam's grave By STEVEN R. HURST, Associated Press Writer
3 minutes ago

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Thousands of Iraqis flocked to Saddam Hussein's hometown of Ouja on Sunday, where the deposed leader was buried in a religious compound 24 hours after his execution.

Dozens of relatives and other mourners, some of them crying and moaning, attended the interment shortly before dawn near Tikrit, 80 miles north of Baghdad. A few knelt before his flag-draped grave. A large framed photograph of Saddam was propped up on a chair nearby.

"I condemn the way he was executed and I consider it a crime," said 45-year-old Salam Hassan al-Nasseri, one of Saddam's clansmen who attended the interment.

Mohammed Natiq, a 24-year-old college student, said "the path of Arab nationalism must inevitably be paved with blood.""God has decided that Saddam Hussein should have such an end, but his march and the course which he followed will not end," Natiq said.

those idiots running the psyops in Iraq hanged the man on the religious equivalent of Easter... European news say that Tikrit had to be shut down for the incoming masses...

Even the West's leading Middle East allies, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, publicly spoke out against the choice of the first day of the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice to put Saddam to death.

The ousted strongman was executed in Baghdad at dawn on Saturday as Muslims began celebrating the Eid al-Adha in which a sheep is traditionally slaughtered in memory of Abraham, who according to the Koran, was about to sacrifice his son Ismail on God's orders, but was sent a sheep instead.

Grainy footage of a grey-bearded and calm-looking Saddam being prepared for the gallows was aired on Iraqi state television and re-broadcast across the Arab world.

"Saddam was being dragged away like he was the sheep waiting to be slaughtered," said Emad Gad, researcher with the Cairo-based Ahram Centre for Strategic Studies.

1. Western ignorance, arrogance and contempt
for other cultures and religions have guaranteed that Saddam will be a martyr. His defiance to the end could not have been anticipated by corwards like Bush, Cheney and Blair.

2.  Western ignorance, arrogance and contempt is not news
to most of the world. There is a long history of that. It's most Americans that are unaware of it.

7. That is mostly true
but understand that there are sheeple across the globe who have bought the gospel of Western propaganda. Many believe whatever they're religious leaders tell them is the truth.

3. Bushco don't care about the rest of the world.
The timing was based on having on impact on the American political calendar (new Congress next week + SOTU later in the month).

11. I am with you on this. It is a Bush thing.
Who ever is running Bush and Co, is really off their mark. It is like they put up a wet finger and feel no wind at all. I am waiting to see what comes out of the Ranch this trip. They for sure have a kool-aid well on that site.

4. They hanged him on Eid Al-Adha
Why not just declare him to be the risen Savio(u)r of the Muslims, and re-name Li'l Boots as "Pontius Pilate" -- ?

How long will it take until we can get some intelligent, grown-up men and women to administer the American government?

5. Sorry, his life wasn't worth 3000 deaths, $400 billion dollars & more
Bush. The man who couldn't shoot straight.

Think about that.

With all of our technology, we had to have a war to get one man.

6. They had to know about this
It's like naming a veteranarian as the head of women's health or joking about having "too much fun" in NOLA while people are drowning and dying. Deliberate provocations born of a sense of endless entitlement and arrogance. They do it because it amuses them and because they can. And because they think there won't be any consequences for themselves that can't be swifty dealt with.

8. Totally agree
The timing was deliberate and intended as a mockery.

And it matches the RW talking machine they have put together over all these years.

12. there was always the political question
Given that they support that wanker in pakistan, musharraf,
they could have ressurrected saddam as newly pardoned like nixon,
and he could have taken back power and extracted vengence on all
who cooperated with the american invasion. So they had to kill
him, they should have done it by military squad long ago, to
settle this mummy-dictator resurrection fear.

If you are an occupying army in a place where there are rebellions
and war crimes, and you believe in the tribal ethics that are
common in that part of the world, where saddam's death was the bloodright
of his victems, had they access, he would have been off'ed long ago.

Now on to his enablers, cheney, rumsfeld, ford, nixon, reagan... these
men need to be tried by history if dead, and courts if alive.

9. he is the icon in death that he never was in life
He's the new monroe, the new che, the firebrand that destroyed the bush dynasty,
the evil act that destroyed the american empire, rumsfeld's and cheney's chemical
weapons man, Reagan's iran-attacker to get even for the embassy and the helicopter
crash, a man innocent of 9/11, yet fallen with the towers and their victems.
