Right Wingers "F"-ing up the Party
Hubby decided to have som of his friends over for a fish fry. I behaved and even made black-eyed peas, cornbread and cole slaw. We all got along fine. UNTIL... one guy started in about how torture's o.k. Blah blah bla, kill 'em all let Allah sort 'em out and other head up your ASS ideas.

He tried to tell me about how "They" won't allow anyone to be Christian "over there". I asked him which "over here" he was talking about. He said "the Middle East".

He proceeded to tell me all about Isalm.I told him I knew better,
that I have an ex husband and a son who are both Muslim. And he said, "Good for you," in that infuriating condescending way assholes say that!

I couldn't really tell anyone where their ideas sucked and what was wrong with them because they were so drunk and thought me getting "worked up" was funny as shit. I couldn't deal anymore. I lost it, and excused myself from the group.

Hubby came in to check on me to see if I was mad. I told him people like that are the reason people like DUH-bya get away with the shit they do, and that they're what's wrong with the world. I'll be o.k. im a few hours. I'd just rather be here, where people actually .

2. Sometimes I wonder...
If republicans really believe the BS they spew or do they know how the neocon junta that occupies the White House has dismantled and molded their party into something unrecognizable.

It makes one wonder.

Sounds dreadful. Happy New Year anyway.

if he so gung-ho for it.

I swear, I'm going to start carrying the enlistment forms with me, so I can whip one out and let the Rightwing Nuts I know they are cowards. Talking all tough but not signing up. Pathetic.

Kind of shoots down that argument. Oh, and 10% of Egypt's people are still followers of the Christian faith.

13. Oh god honey
that just stinks. My boys like to tease me with "woman" shit just to get me worked up and they think it is funny. It is no fun then and I know they do not mean a word of it. This had to be just painful.

Wish you were here, I would take you to the best party I have ever been to. A yearly thing at a good friends house where everyone is as loony left as me and most of them are gay, the food is to die for.

Hang in there, you got your licks in and they are A-One-Assholes with brains the size of a pea.

16. Maybe you should tell him about the Christian population in the mid east
Places like Mosul, with a Christian population. Its true you can't be christian in Saudi Arabia, and I don't like any theocratic government form...But if he hates the people that damn much, why should we be paying 230 billion dollars to "liberate" them and give them "democracy"?

Those people are ignorant, or they'd know about the many many Christians that are found in the Middle East. I am at a loss as to how to deal with them sober, much less drunk. I hope hubby got the message and treats you to breakfast in bed or a nice dinner out tomorrow.

23. Well, I'm writing from Egypt...
...where the whole country gets a day off next week to celebrate the Coptic Xian Christmas Day. And that's mandated by the government, not a tradition.

Egypt is 95% Muslim, but along with the Copts it has Catholics, Greek Orthodox, generic Protestants, and a few freethinker/atheist types like myself. There are even small Jewish communities still hanging on in Cairo and Alexandria. Occasionally trouble flares between the various groups. There were some ugly riots here between the Copts and Muslims, back in October. In that case, the government had cops protecting every Coptic church in Alexandria until things cooled down.

I spent 2 years in Saudi Arabia, which is like night and day compared to Egypt. The Religious Police were all over the place in Saudi Arabia, and you never knew what would set them off from day to day. We got yelled at once because (American) women were laughing in public. That was called "unseemly."

Here in Egypt, giggly teen-age girls wearing the hijab (head-covering) come up and ask me to take their picture. If that had ever happened in Saudi Arabia, I suspect we would have all gone to jail. Overall, Egypt is an amazingly diverse nation.

BTW, your bonehead right-wing visitor would be especially horrified at the diversity of Alexandria...which is one reason I love the place. The Alexandrians have stubbornly clung to the "old" names for their city districts, so walking around is almost like seeing a mini-history of the city: Iskander-al-Akbar (Alexander The Great) Street. Sporting District. Chatby. Ibrahimya. Caesar's Camp. Cleopatra. Stanley Beach. Glymenopoulo. San Stefano. Sidi Bishr...

(Whoops! Sorry for rambling on with a travelogue...)

24. Thank you for that.
I remember the Mutawas strolling through the streets of Khobar, Saudi Arabia to make sure everyone closed their shop for prayer. This was in the 70's.

We had a friend whose Dad was American and his Mom Iranian. He was grabbed up and had an "X" shaved in the top of his head becaus his hair was too long! I learned to go ahead and cover up to keep the roaming hands off...

Greetings across the waters! :hi:

26. Another ex- ex-pat!
:hi:

I thought I'd seen you posting about living in Saudi Arabia before. Howdy! I lived in Jeddah, which was one of the nicest cities in the country, IMO.

It still had the patrolling matowas, though. I saw them humiliate an elderly British couple for about 30 minutes one night, simply because they were sitting in the front of a restaurant and not in the "Family" (Women's) Section. It was maddening to have to just sit and watch that...which was true of many things there, as I'm sure you know.

FWIW, every Egyptian I've met knows one English phrase: Bush no good. Heh...

What's the difference? As far as the torture goes, if it is OK for us to torture them, is it also OK for them to torture our soldiers? Why doesn't he support our troops?

29. You now have an appreciation for how Hitler and the Nazi party came about
There are people who are incapable of integrating reason, facts, and the willingness to act humanely. They have always littered the dark days of human malevolence.

They opined about freedom while creating a society based on slavery.

They parade and bellow about patriotism and virtue while herding their enemies into concentration camps.

The come to a new world to practice religious freedom, and immediately oppress the indigenous population.

Their ability to hold two diametrically opposite ideas in their head at the same time and not realize the hypocrisy and idiocy of them leads me to believe that humanity has speciated with a group capable of coherent reason, and another incapable.

31. I'd have booted him out of the house. Immediately.
Your husband was being an asshole for letting him stay when he was obviously disrespecting you. If he wasn't fit to drive, call him a cab, but if that man EVER steps foot into your home without apologizing to you, I'd consider getting a divorce.

My husband just pointed out its a free country, and people have the right to their own opinions, but my superior logic (it is YOUR HOME, and people need to treat you respectfully -- because, yes, there is a way to be respectful when disagreeing) trumps his, so I win. :)

When the guy is sober, either your husband speaks to him (because supposedly he is your husband's friend), or you just make damn sure you publicly humiliate him by booting his ass out of your home the next time he's foolish enough to come over.

I am seriously perturbed at your husband for letting people treat you so abusively in your own home -- and drunk is NOT an excuse!!!
