A Sacramento woman suspected of driving under the influence has been arrested on manslaughter charges in connection with a hit-and-run crash that took the life of a Carmichael Jewish community activist.
Nikita Page, 31, was arrested for suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI. Investigators from the California Highway Patrol say Page was driving a white Lexus south on Watt Avenue near Arden Way at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday when she was involved in a non-injury traffic collision. Page left the scene at a high rate of speed without stopping, the California Highway Patrol said.
Page continued south on Watt Avenue, failed to stop at a red light at Fair Oaks Boulevard and struck a Toyota Avalon, according to investigators. The driver of that car, 73-year-old Sima Spector of Carmichael, was injured and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

The woman who died in the collision, Spector (shown above) was a well-known activist in the Sacramento-area Jewish community. She had just returned from Southern California after working on a national conference for Jewish womens' organization Hadassah.
A speech pathologist for the Sacramento City Unified School District, Spector was also heavily involved with various health and womens' causes. Spected helped co-found the Check It Out Breast Health Awareness and Education, a program focused on getting high school-aged girls to perform self-examinations for breast cancer.
