Berwick PA Nuclear Plant? anyone know?
My Mom from back east just called and said the local news said there was some kind of incident that happened at the Berwick PA Nuclear Plant. I have been searching the web for information and I have not found anything. Does anyone know what's going on?

Thanks in advance!

2. I am not sure what's happening
According to my mom, the local TV stations broke into programming talking about an "incident" inside the plant. They also said that nothing was released in the air and local fire and emergency personnel are on standby. This kind of vague information from the local authorities does not inspire confidence in me. I was back in PA during the entire 3 Mile Island incident.

If anyone get's any nes on this, please post. Thanks!

3. Here's the story -
From a local TV station - It doesn't sound serious. Probably just local nes up to their usual fear mongering:

Emergency Alert at Susquehanna Nuclear Power Plant

Wednesday, March 1, 11:36 p.m.

An emergency alert has been raised at the Susquehanna Nuclear Power Plant in Salem Township in Luzerne County, but officials said the public is not in danger.

According to PPL officials at the plant, there was a release of halon in one of the non-nuclear structures at the plant. Halon is a fire suppressant. Officials at the plant said no flames were present, but there was a burnt smell detected.

Inspections at Pa. power plants find no cases of inattentiveness
Centre Daily Times, PA - 22 hours ago

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Gov. Ed Rendell said Tuesday that the first round of surprise inspections at Pennsylvania nuclear power plants last month found no cases of inattentiveness.

Reports of sleeping or inattentive employees at Three Mile Island prompted the state to say it will carry out bimonthly unannounced, off-hour inspections at five Pennsylvania nuclear plants.

The state Department of Environmental Protection will continue the inspections through the end of the year, and then will decide whether to keep the program going, department spokesman Ronald Ruman said.

>>snip<<

At least one inspection has been completed at each of the state's nuclear facilities - Beaver Valley Power Station in Beaver County, Limerick Generating Station in Montgomery County, Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station in York County, Susquehanna Steam Electric Station in Luzerne County and Three Mile Island in Dauphin County.
