35. Do you really think that type of gathering would be allowed
in the land of the free* known as Bush's Amerika? No freaking way they'd let a crowd gather in those numbers. If we do it, we need to bring torches and pitchforks and go all the way.

9. Pessimist? No. Realist? Yes.
The corporate owned media doesn't want the stupid masses to think that their golden boy isn't liked everywhere. It's just when Doofus-in-Chief goes to other countries, they can't hoard them into "free speech zones" like they do here, so if anyone shows up to protest, it will always be " a few thousand" even if it's 800,000 strong. And really, compared to the population of the world, that is just a few thousand.......let's have some perspective please :sarcasm:

8. That got me really upset.
They don't mention anything about the protest or the size of it in the artical. Considering the amount of people in just the picture, there had to hundreds of thousands there protesting.

:grr:

He could ignore a couple hundred thousand in DC, so why should the same number of Indians bother him?

He simply does not give a red rat's ass about what ANYONE thinks.

20. Someone should post this at Free Republic.
They will ban you, of course, and probably pull the thread, too, because -- as we liberals all know -- Freepers cannot handle the truth.

But it would be worth a banning to put this little snippet of the the truth under their noses. Lord knows, they'll never post the whole truth themselves.

Without putting blinders on, putting their fingers in their ears, and chanting 'ya,ya,ya,ya,' so no unfiltered information gets through, even Freers can no longer ignore the obvious truth: Bush is the worst president in American history and the whole world knows it!!

28. FYI: There are about 13,000 people in that picture.
FYI: There are about 13,000 people in that picture.

My method:

It's a trapezoidal area that's about 80 people wide
across the bottom, about 240 people wide across the
top, and about 80 people deep from front to back.

That gives us (80+240)/2 * 80 = 12,800 people.

Feel free to recount the picture and fix my numbers;
I just made a quick assessment.

30. That photo contains @ 7500 people
Edited on Thu Mar-02-06 12:27 PM by leveymg
There are some 50 people in the front row,and I count about three times that number at the rear. There are approx. 75 rows front to rear. Rule of thumb estimate is done by averaging the distribution at the front (3750) versus the rear (11250) in order to come out with a mean value of 7500. No doubt, someone with better math will give you a more exact figure.

That's a lot, but the crowd would have to be ten times that size to reach 75,000.

The front row is about 120 feet while the rear is 360 for a total square footage covered of about three (120'X360') football fields.

Next time you're at a demonstration with a densely packed crowd, take some photos from a distance, do your own calculations and compare them with those provided by the media.

Note: My estimate's a little less than Tesha's, but we're in the same ballpark, so to speak. If you average the two estimates, you come out with 10,000 in the picture. :hi:
