DEMOCRATS Plan Move to FORCE PORT VOTE
Democrats move to force port vote, decry Emirates' boycott of Israel
RAW STORY
Published: March 2, 2006

Democrats plan to force a vote on the Dubai ports deal through a procedural measure in the House Thursday. The move is expected to fail.

However, a broad coalition of Democrats in the House are collecting signatures for a letter to President Bush decrying the United Arab Emirates funding of Hamas and its boycott against Israel. That letter -- which RAW STORY has learned has already been signed by the Democrats' campaign chair in the House -- Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) is making the rounds now.

The letter follows. Current signatories include Democratic Reps. Ackerman, Berkley, Bishop (NY), Cardoza, Crowley, DeLauro, Emanuel, Engel, Gene Green, Hastings (FL), Higgins, Holt, Lantos, Levin, Lowey, Maloney, McNulty, George Miller, Nadler, Pallone, Rothman, Sanders, Towns, Visclosky, Wasserman Schultz, Watson, Waxman and Wexler.

We write to express our deep concerns regarding your Administration’s decision to allow Dubai Ports World (DP World), a firm owned by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to manage operations at six U.S. ports. The UAE has pledged to provide financial support to the Hamas-led government of the Palestinian Authority and openly participates in the Arab League boycott against Israel. The agreement that your Administration approved not only could place the safety and security of U.S. ports at risk, but enhance the ability of the UAE to bolster the Hamas regime and its efforts to promote terrorism and violence against Israel.

5. I know. I said a few day's ago we can't let them bury this for 45 days.

And got pretty much poo-pooed for bringing it up by people here.

So after the move fails as expected, let me ask you this:

When they do get back around to discussing it after over a month, after it had been buried and undiscussed, and the latest press generated scandal has taken away every ones attention from it, and the Congressional republicans cash their bribe checks from the untraceable UAE bank accounts they originated from, is this going to be a real discussion of the UAE ports issue by congress, or is this going to be a total joke where the people testifying won't even be under oath?

Sorry, but I am completely disgusted by the way they have handled everything else, and would love for them to prove me wrong by actually growing a pair. As it stands though this whole fucking administration should be doing prison time for everything, considering the "investigations" have been handled by this bunch to date, and they are still in power screwing everything up as usual.

6. Confused... If "the move is expected to fail",
then shouldn't it read, "ATTEMPT to force a vote..." or "TRY to force a vote..."??
Then too, (considering how many Democratic reps. & Senators vote with the Repukes), we'd be lucky to even get a majority of Democrats to sign.

7. Please
I wish the Democrats would stop sending letters to President Bush. Do they really think he is going to read the damn things? Sending letters doesn't work.
