OMG! President Clinton could have filed Sexual Harrassment
against Monica Lewinsky! I just realized this from DU poster sinkingfeeling on this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=557796&mesg_id=558050 When Monica flashed her thong at Clinton, he should have filed a sexual harassment suit against her. Then maybe she would have kept her distance from him. But instead he let it pass. Am I crazy for thinking this? :-)

1. I agree with what Jon Stewart said. Clinton should have ...
... just stamped his penis "Classified".

4. Doesn't the person who is committing the harrassment...
... have to be in some position of power over the person they are harassing? And if the sexual contact is of mutual consent, is that harassment?

I'm obviously no lawyer, but I'm not sure if underlings committing sexual harassment passes the legal test...

5. SH in the workplace is normally a senior-subordinate issue

Unless Monica was Clinton's BOSS, and she wasn't....the strawman does not fly.

Monica engaged in inappropriate workplace behavior, and should have been disciplined at a minimum.

Bill shoulda walked away, and told Bettie Currie to handle it. But hey, he didn't. He screwed up.

Edit-clarity

7. Having read Conason and Lyon's "Hunting of the President"
I would say that even that wouldn't have mattered. The right was gunning for him from day one and the NY Times was a willing accomplice.

8. Easier
He could have told her, "behave professionally in the White House." Clearly, he enjoyed what was going on. That's not harassment.

9. I'd like to file one against the Starr commission
Edited on Thu Mar-02-06 03:15 PM by ccbombs
That whole thing was just TMI, ya know what I mean? For 2 solid years I was bombarded with references, including the gory intimate details, of a consensual affair everywhere I looked. And I STILL have to put up with wingnut creeps who want to discuss it with me 7 years later. That whole ridiculous impeachment proceeding caused untold millions of women to be pestered by co-workers who now had an "acceptable" excuse to try to corner them into conversations about sex. Bleech!! :puke:

What say we get in on some class action? ;)

10. I know what you mean.
Although when the Starr Report came out, I did check the internet for all the juicy details.

11. that would be most unchivalrous
Edited on Thu Mar-02-06 03:35 PM by pitohui
i have to say i would have little respect for a man in a position of authority who filed a harassment suit against a pretty young girl who was infatuated w. him and tried to seduce him

sexual harassment used to mean something, it was when your boss fired you or made your life hell at work because you didn't sleep w him, lewinsky was not going to fire clinton if he didn't put out, in fact, it is apparently the case that he didn't put out, heh heh

i can't picture a gentleman like clinton filing suit against lewinsky for the crime of having a young girl's crush

12. Huh?
I don't think you can file a sexual harrassment claim when you're the boss.

Also Clinton wouldn't have filed a claim, he obviously liked the attention.

13. Abstinence works ...
only for people who have already made up their minds to be abstinent.

If Clinton was able to make that decision (lawsuit, firing, etc.), he would never have been involved sexually with Lewinski.

He found an opportunity that he could simply not refuse, and it ended up screwing more than he wished.

Cheers
Drifter

14. ?
There's no violation of his rights because there's no harm. That being said, the idea of Bill, who I love both in spite of and because of his sleaze, filing a sexual harrassment suit is just too funny for words. Thanks for the image :P
