I Just Had an Epiphany
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 01:25 PM by abluelady
I am watching a rerun of Washington Journal and the topic is about a column he wrote regarding an Indian grad student who has been hassled for taking pictures in the DC subway system.

People are calling in who agree that she should have been hassled. I don't agree, but that's another story. What it did was made me see how the Holocaust in Germany worked! I always wondered in my naivite (sp?) how decent Germans could turn in their Jewish neighbors. I didn't/don't ' understand fear and brainwashing which is what Hitler did to the Germans.

Bush is doing exactly that to Americans. Next time I see my Jewish Republican friend, who is terrified for her safety regarding terrorists, I am going to "apologize" to her for not understanding her feelings and use Hitler and the Jews and the brainwashing that went on. Wonder what her response will be????

16. Remember the kids arrested for being terrorists that took video at Disney?
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 01:17 PM by Roland99
At one point they panned the camera around and a garbage can came into the view. The prosecutor said it was obviously to determine a place where a bomb could be hidden.

Later on, the camcorder was accidently left on and dangling down and pointing at the ground and the prosecutor said it was obviously to count the number of steps between two locations.

Oy-fucking-vey!

4. Any link to that article?
...or do you know where it could be found? I ride the Metro everyday, so I'd love to know how this came about.

I don't understand your part about apologizing to your Jewish friend about brainwashing and stuff like that though.....

17. I guess that is the bleeding heart in me.
I feel badly that I thought so little of her. I still think little of her but at least now I understand where she is coming from.

5. Walk into Bloomingdale's in NYC and you get hassled. This is ...
nothing new. It's about security.

The subway needs better security. So does Amtrak.

Do you ride a subway regularly?

so one is perhaps a little touchy. I guess it was little unusual for that kneck of the woods. There was no need to hassle her - 3 visits to her home after JHU said it was OK.

7. (You mean "Epiphany"!) You just woke up. That's good. Most people
don't have a clue as to how easily a population can be reconditioned to behave the way you want them to. And the irony is, if you aren't aware of how easy it is - that means you are more susceptible to the reconditioning (brainwashing).

You have to be aware of the strings they are manipulating you with before you know to severe them.

15. Too true
My boyfriend is fond of saying there is a thin veil of civility and calm. It doesn't take much to bust through that veil and then all the animal instincts are found beneath it, alive and well.

20. I Disagree
I believe that if you are a thinker, be it good or bad, you will not be easily manipulated. Those who don't use their minds constructively are the easy bait. And I think that is the majority. I just didn't realize how easily frightened people can be.

8. you are right and i have been saying for a couple years. this is how
it was done. i didnt understand either. our fear, for our safety overrides the soncern for fellow man. i see it in other instances. like allowing all rights to be taken away in airport. for our collective safety. dont make eye contact. dont look abnormal in anyway. dont show stress, anger, or frustration. only fear. put tail between legs and cowar, obey...... or else, in the name of safety for the collective whole,.......shoot to kill and ask questions later.

9. Reporter said issue does not break on partisan lines. I disagree
Just from the callers' I could tell that the Dem's didn't like the ideal of racial profiling and the Repukes said, officer just doing his job (to be expected, no outrage).

Seems to me reporters are always soft pedaling the differences.

11. Only white couples with 2.5 kids are allowed to have cameras
and take pictures at this site.

All others must have a permit and wear a special patch on their arms.

12. And if you were really a "terrorist"
you could just as easily have a hidden camera. So the whole issue is moot.

14. I too have a Jewish Republican friend. She didn't vote at all in 2004
but her husband did. At least I cancelled his vote out. I'm glad she's too apathetic to even bother to vote since she's a Republican. He husband isn't Jewish (he's Irish-Catholic.) They're from Mass. Go figure. The're Republicans. It seems that Yankees who move South do so solely to make lots of money. It has to be all about the money.

I saw that WJ segment this morning. Very disturbing. :(
