What is an "FM type"?
Old timers I think you may be of great service here.

I jump in my car to get lunch and I have the radio on the talk station here in Richmond. Rush is on...I know I know but before I could switch it he said something about

"this long haired dirty maggot covered FM type" referring to the teacher in Colorado Jay Bennish *.

What does that mean "FM type"? Is that what I think it is- a 60's term for hippie?

*BTW he shouldn't have compared anyone to Hitler but other than that I have no problem with what Bennish did and apparently all the parents were told what the class would entail. This whole thing is more rightwing BS, little Johnnie can't answer for himself which ironically is what the human geography class was supposed to be teaching.

17. Exactly
Someone needs to tell him FM types aren't a bad thing. In fact, it is AM radio that is going the way of the dinosaurs. The FCC isn't even allowing new AM licenses anymore.

5. I think we are better off not knowing
surely his flock understands the code. Hilariously limbaugh has edited himself. Way back when he used to refer to "drug crazed maggot covered FM type." I wonder why he know longer refers to "drug crazed" liberals?

I guess I could be considered an old timer. I remember in 1963 when my grandfather bought me a transistor radio, AM only. It was the greatest invention in the universe. I used to go to sleep at night listening to Phillies games with the earplug securely stuck in my ear. As I grew older I started listening to the rock and roll on FM stations and consistently voted for Democrats, maybe there is a connection. But I've never had long hair, never been covered with maggots and spent 24 years serving my country, never abused drugs, always pay my bills and am a viable productive charitable member of my community and I always vote for dem candidates, so rush I just don't understand. Help me out motherfucker.

11. That's what I figured
You didn't hear it out there much at all (they do run quite a tight ship) but this clearly is meant to harken back to one of their big themes of the 2004 election-Bush (staid conservative) vs. Kerry (hippie radical ...commie?).

I heard it a lot at the very beginning of the cycle and some RW e-mails I got backed up that talking point. I think this was a big part that they didn't let out there into the mainstream.

6. Way back in the good old days...
Back when FM radio was catching on (mid- to late-60s) the only broadcasts were highbrow (classical, operatic, and some jazz) and progressive rock/psychedelic music.

The simian types viewed FM listeners with more than a little disdain.

Ol' PigBoy has sure grown with the times, hasn't he?

7. Oh he should have compared him to Hitler.
If Hitler did political machinations that were similar then the comparison is apt. Hitler is not the devil.

And history lesson, if nobody can compare anything to Hitler, Hitler is doomed to repeat.

He's not an icon, he's not beyond comparison.

8. there used to be something in this country called "FM radio"
when the medium first started out it was pretty much the domain of the frontier types: hippies and college students who played alternative music and espoused somewhat liberal ideas.

Thhis person is just betraying his lack of hipness by using an anachronistic term.

Rush Limbaugh whines about Ozzy Osbourne Rush calls Ozzy a brain-fried, maggot-infested, dope-smoking, long-haired, purple-finger nailed, multi-colored hair, FM type. Hey, that maggot comment isn't true.

10. Back in the 60's and early 70's
FM radio was alternative radio to the standard AM radio. Many thought that it was leftist, communist type things being played. But, this was where the many who weren't main stream found their jazz, folk, new age and such on small little radio stations. You never would have heard "Velvet Underground" on AM radio.

13. FM. You could actually here songs like this on the radio.

The President is talking to us through a microphone
Like he's trying to pack his mother off
To an old people's home

I know you're out there
I know you're out there somewhere
I know you're out there
When I hear the word "Democracy"
I reach for my headphones

He's the president of Europe and he's talking to the dead
They're the only ones who'll listen or believe a word he said
You know I'm out here
But you can't see me, darlin'
You know I'm out here
When I hear the word "Security"
I reach for my shotgun

He's standing in a cemetery inside the western zone
I listen on the radio, I'm glad I'm not alone
I know you're out there
I know you're out there somewhere
God knows you're out there

I can almost hear it raining
I can almost hear it raining
I can almost hear it raining

But you can't see me, can you?

14. Dan Ackroyd did a Saturday Night Live skit
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 02:08 PM by rocknation
where he was alone in a studio with two microphones labeled AM and FM. He'd talk like a zany hyped-up Howard Stern type into the AM mike, put on a Top Forty record, turn in his chair to the FM mike, talk into it like a laid-back stoner, and put on a classic rock record!

By the way, who is Rush Limbaugh to call someone "drug-crazed"? That's like Hugh Hefner calling someone a pimp!

16. in the beginning god created am radio . . .
when fm came out, the stations were sometimes considered 'pirate' stations and djs (that's 'disk jockeys' for you younguns) were long haired hippy types.

apparently rush is still resenting all the fun we had back then.
