Thomas Kincade - Painter of light - is DARKSIDED?
Edited on Sun Mar-05-06 07:56 PM by burythehatchet
Christian-themed artist Thomas Kinkade is accused of ruthless tactics and seamy personal conduct. He disputes the allegations
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-kinkade5mar05,0,3770067.story?page=2

...
"When I got saved, God became my art agent," he said in a 2004 video biography, genteel in tone and rich in the themes of faith and family values that have helped win him legions of fans, albeit few among art critics.
...
Last month, however, a three-member panel of the American Arbitration Assn. ordered his company to pay $860,000 for defrauding the former owners of two failed Virginia galleries. That decision marks the first major legal setback for Kinkade, who won three previous arbitration claims. Five more are pending.
...
an allegedly drunken Kinkade heckled illusionists Siegfried & Roy in Las Vegas, cursed a former employee's wife who came to his aid when he fell off a barstool, and palmed a startled woman's breasts at a signing party in South Bend, Ind.
...

For those of you who are not familiar with this god-sent "artist", you ain't missed much!

5. Goodness
As a Christian I don't think it's very Christ-like to heckle other people. And to us Christian's drinking is supposed to be a big no because you can get drunk and lose control over your mind and do something really dumb.

6. I think they mean "DORKSIDED,"
Edited on Sun Mar-05-06 08:04 PM by Warpy
which is the pronunciation I've heard most often. He certainly fits.

His operation is a scam, churning out prints of unbearably saccharine paintings that he or his assistants dab a few blobs of acrylic on so they can be sold as Kinkaade originals.

Please give us a link, though. I have artist friends who need to see this.

On Edit: I have a link to the antidote for those who find the mere mention of that name causes a vague queasiness from sugar overdose: http://www.somethingawful.com/articles.php?a=1918

Be sure to keep hitting "next"

10. Funny I always found his paintings to have a phoney "fairyland
in Disneyland" quality to them. Maybe that's why they appeal to the Christian right, who can't face reality anyway. I'm not surprised that he has an obnoxious side to him, many artists of many disciplines can be very hateful.

14. Sorrrryyyyy
I guess I'm not a good Democrat if I like his work, doesn't mean I have to like him. I've had some of his work for years. I liked the Christmas collection because of the mountain theme and I live in the mountains. I certainly don't consider myself a fundie and as I have learned more about the artist I quit purchasing, but I do enjoy the collection I have.

17. Nothing to stop you from enjoying what you enjoy.
I'm a big fan of Norman Rockwell, and a lot of people think he's smarmy too.

20. Continue To Enjoy Them, They're Probably Quite Beautiful.
Don't let those who are silly enough to say if you like them you must be a fundie get you down, as that notion is ludicrous on its face.

I really enjoy his paintings too, and I'm as far left of right and fundy as you can get for the most part.

19. I had a co-worker who used to copy his works. She was so
good, you couldn't tell the difference from the real thing and then she used to sell them to her church members. They knew it wasn't Kincaid, but damn it really looked like his work. So I'm sure what she did wasn't legal, but hell I'll never tell on her. She needed the money for her husband's medical expenses too.

18. I Love Kinkade Paintings. They're Beautiful, Even If He Is A Prick.
And to those who are so ignorant and narrowminded to associate someone who likes his paintings to being a fundy or a freeper, get a grip, it's just a painting.

21. First of all, it's a stretch to call Kinkade an artist.
OMG, I have never seen such pathetic schlock in all my life. It looks like something someone named Tiffani would hang on the paneling in her double wide. Erp! If he's in legal trouble it should be for bad art.
