Dubai Ports World tells Congress to go to hell

tomorrow's Washington Post story

Page 2 of 2 < Back

...................

DP World officials were similarly noncommittal.

"We appreciate the comments and suggestion of the congressman, among many other congressmen and people from the White House also, as well as the senators," Sultan Bin Sulayem, Dubai Ports World's chairman, told CNN. "This 45 days that we have volunteered for review is a good chance for all of us, I think. And I think by the end of this, they will realize that there is no fear, no worry about security."

DP World officials suggested yesterday that within days, Peninsular & Oriental's operations will belong to them, no matter what Congress does.

"DP World officials suggested yesterday that within days, Peninsular & Oriental's operations will belong to them, no matter what Congress does."

3. Yes it could be arrogance, but tell me this.
If a British business is selling it's business to someone else, in this case DPW, how can the US stop it?

I'[m not trying to side with anyone here, I just don't understand. The British Company had thecontract to perform a service, and they decided to sell it. Does the US really have any power to stop that deal?

12. You mean Tories right?
Repugs didn't start 'til 1830 or so...give or take. When Lincoln ran, repubs were a new party.

7. The executive branch has eliminated congress
and DINOs have eliminated an opposition party to the executive branch's Republican bushbots in Congress.

The Supreme Court is gone.

It's Unitary time and UAE says we can just STFU!

W, as the corporatist king, has taken over the world. Their will be done. Wake up to the new America.

The Bushbots sold our freedom, independence, and competition down the river.

13. I hate to say this, but the Sultan is right...it WILL "BELONG" to them,
no matter what Congress does, simply because the sale of the British Company IS going through. So, yes, the "operations" of a company they will then OWN will continue.

THEN it will be up to congress to pass a law that says control of the ports can't be in the hands of Arabs who helped terrorists. But...will a republican congress DO such a thing?

No. Go against a huge corporate conglomerate? No. They SHOULD but they won't.

Our ports belong in the hands of U.S. employees, and U.S. management. They SHOULD be owned and/or controlled by the government. But not in corporate owned America ... they will never be.

This depresses me. We have absolutely NOBODY at the helm of this country that has two brain cells to rub together.
