U.S. ‘will always be by Israel’s side,’ Clinton says
Edited on Wed Mar-08-06 01:25 PM by ECH1969
The United States’ relationship with Israel will be “solid for a long time to come,” former U.S. President Bill Clinton told supporters of the Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies in Toronto on Sunday night.

“No matter what happens, we will always be there by Israel’s side,” the 42nd American president told some 1,800 people attending the sold-out Spirit of Hope Benefit at the Toronto Performing Arts Centre.

“We’re not about to allow Hamas or anyone else destroy Israel.”

In a 40-minute extemporaneous talk that was warmly received, Clinton touched on many topics, including the Middle East, the growing interdependence of the world, and the deadly riots that followed publication of Danish editorial cartoons depicting the Muslim Prophet Muhammad.

3. We're probably going to end up paying $100 billion to New Orleans
but too bad the money couldn't have been spent on bolstering the dams BEFORE Katrina.

13. At least $5 Billion. The Caterpillar than ran over a young american
activist named Rachel Corrie... those cost millions each. Paid for by the likes of you and me. Oh yeah, they usually just demolish Palestinian homes. The homes of tens of thousands were destroyed in just the last four years. Crops too. Olive trees uprooted.

2. "No matter what happens.." Is he running for president of Israel?
Alas, he's probably right. Considering how we've always been "there by Israel's side" even when they committed war crimes and built an apartheid wall.

5. They ought to hand out knee pads when these politicos talk to
AIPAC, they just will do *anything* for acceptance.
John Edwards gave a similar speel last night.

6. The key is to change Israel into a more liberal place...
and break the power of conservatives in Israeli politics. Jewish liberals are some of the strongest speakers and thinkers of the progressive movement. We need to empower them and marginalize Likud style governance whenever we can.

7. Maybe, but they can't be too liberal with giving away their
land or they won't exist anymore...

11. Israel needs every ounce of liberalism that its Jewish heritage can summon
Conservatives don't protect Israel, they sell it out or sell it short, like conservatives do here. In many cases, they are the same conservatives.

Liberal government is the best hope Israel has of national survival, conservatives have nothing to offer Jews but war & misery, just as they have throughout history.

12. "Their" land? The world considers the West Bank and Gaza to be
illegally occupied. It is not theirs to give away.

15. Some in the world might, but I think most of the world
recognizes Israel as a nation and its right to exist.

16. That is not what i said.
The West Bank and Gaza is not part of Israel. Israel has Jewish only settlements in the West Bank. It must leave the West Bank. It is not theirs.

It is unique among nations for not having a defined border.

wants to be loved...
By elites all over and he sure is a clever politician.

That's why he will simultaneous advise the UAE on the port deal, support his wife's plan to scuttle the deal - all for a country that doesn't even acknowledge Israel's existence.

Meanwhile he kisses AIPAC's ass.

I'll hand it to him. He makes everyone feel like he "really does feel their pain".
