Next country to invade? Americans embarrass themselves with geography.
Stop what you are doing, and watch this video. It's safe for work, but you will be extremely embarrassed for these people.

To my fellow Americans: If you want to invade a country, could you at least point to it on a map?

1. hey, how about canada? I hear that it is close to the USA. I think.
I read they provide us with 35% of imported oil, that they speak french (That's reason enough) and they interfere with travel to Alaska. BY the way, where is Alaska? It is always next to Hawaii on the map. I'll bet our invasion will pay for itself in oil revenues.

Besides, they don't go to church there, so they are evil.

(Sarcasm, in case any one misses it)

7. did you see the map?
Australia was labelled "North Korea" in the last frame, you can read it on the map. Probably for some of the clip it was labelled France or Iran too. People just read the map, instead of saying "this map is screwed up. Why is Australia being called North Korea?"
How can anyone not know where Australia is? Especially after the Sidney Olympics. Didn't they ever show a map on TV for those?

11. There is no excuse as to not know that that was Australia
It's one of the seven continents. Every school-aged child is taught the continents in the first few grades.

Leno should be pissed. CNN is butting in on his territory of showing us just how stupid people really are.

I could understand if they switched Luxembourg with Belgium and people got confused - but North Korea and Australia?

21. some of that is showing how sheeplike we are
We bow to the authority of the map instead of relying on our own knowledge, but how many people did they have to film before they found a half dozen idjits for their clip?

25. Sadly, probably only the 6 filmed.
Critical thinking is no longer prized anymore and, in fact, seems to be shunned as some sort of dangerous thing.

Why are we one of the dumbest fucking countries in the world. No wonder the Neocons took over so easily.

6. Who's the source of this video?
It's a bit grainy but it looks like it says "CNNN"? And the ticker at the bottom is clearly from a humor network.

The interviewer sounds Australian, which would jive with them putting the names of all those countries on top of Australia. Sad that they can prey so easily on the average American. I do wonder how many actually fell for the trick vs. the ones (who wouldn't have been fun on camera) who told them to sod off, or said, "Why on earth do you have Iran's name on Australia?"

13. Look! It's bushco's strategery team!
Oh. My. God.

We should attack France because they weren't our allies? We are basically our only ally since we provided most of the soldiers to the countries that we later claimed were part of this coalition on "terra."

Can you imagine what people from other countries are thinking when they see these idiots?

No wonder the world hates us. Videos like this make me hate us, too.

15. You're right, this is embarrassing. I can understand having to
look for a country on a map, but these people had absolutely no clue as to what continent they were looking at, much less where a country might be located.

17. There is a very cool web site,
WorldAtlas.com

http://worldatlas.com/aatlas/world.htm

It offers both maps, map blanks, and map tests. As much as I despair our general lack of knowledge (and you noticed on the video that they wrote 'Iran' on Australia -- so it was even 'trickier' - sigh), most of us could use a brush-up.

The '-stans' and the African nations are my downfall; growing up with the monolithic USSR apparently made me geographically lazy in that area, and I constantly mis-position the interior African nations.

Anyway. The maps are fun to play with, if you like that sort of thing!

I wonder if they would have mislabeled the US as Iran if people would have gone for it. And why did that one kid think we should invade Italy? :wft:

22. A story about a soccer mom
True story. My neighbor asked a man where he was from because of his accent. He told her he was from Scotland. Neighbor, "Oh, that's next to Australia, isn't it?" Same neighbor. Also true story. She was asking me about my sister's house and said "Doesn't it have a railroad underneath it?" Me, "What do you mean?" Neighbor,"I heard there is some kind of underground railroad under it." My sister's house was indeed one of the stops for the underground railroad. I had to give her a little history lesson.
