At 4:49am this morning, "gunshots" were heard in small town..marines
were in Millbury, a village of 1300 doing a practice exercise. About two dozen Marines came into the village on military trucks and conducted training using MILITARY ASSAULT RIFLES FIRING BLANKS. The township police were unaware and after receiving calls about gunshots stopped the exercise until they could verify that it had indeed been approved by the village mayor.

I can't link to the story..it's in the Bowling Green Sentinel-Tribune Newspaper which isn't online. All I know is that I'm pissed. This little town of Millbury isn't that far from here. We knew the training exercises were going on in Toledo but what the heck is going on with them coming to small villages now and conducting exercises in early morning hours.

The morning Toledo paper had this article here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2155057

The only other article online I could find does say they will be conducting training in other areas. Too bad they don't warn people first.

Marines reservists training downtownMarch 9, 2006 - Expect to see men and women in uniform and their Humvees in Toledo over the next few days.

For the second time this year, members of the 1st Battalion, 24th Marines will hold training exercises in the Toledo area. The Marines are from Lansing, Michigan and Perrysburg, Ohio. They were also in Toledo at the beginning of February.
The Madison building downtown will serve as the staging area from Thursday morning through early Sunday morning. City officials say this drill will be larger in scope than previous exercises, and will also include other areas in Lucas and Ottawa Counties. The city says downtown visitors shouldn't experience any disruptions.

The Marines consider the training important in preparing for deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. The drill is scheduled to begin around 6:00 p.m. Thursday and end at 3:00 a.m. Sunday.

3. I live near a Marine base and they have war games all the time.

If you are lucky, you might find notice of an upcoming 'event' in the newspaper. If you want to be sure, you have to log on to the Marine Corps Base web site all the time to find out when they are going to play 'games.'

Nine times out of ten, the only way you know the games are on is when your windows start shaking, or you wonder if you just heard thunder, a car crash, or something fell out of the sky and landed in your neighborhood.

Between the howitzers and the military helicopters, sometimes I think I know what it feels like to be under attack. Almost.
Thank God for that part. So far anyway.

Edited for grammar.

18. I think you're missing the key point
and that is, these aren't on MILITARY BASES that happen to be close to you, these are in small TOWNS where people live.

Do you recognize that there's some qualitative difference there?

20. Uh gee, no. I guess I'll have to go to OZ to get a brain.
Good thing there are DU'ers here to tell me how to read.

:sarcasm:

Yeah, I got the point. Is it OK if I share something that happens in MY area and how I go about finding out information on it?
Or do I have to ask your permission first?

5. Is this something that has always gone on?
I've never heard of our military playing war games on the streets of our towns. Is this some type of de sensitizing program?

I, for one, would certainly get awfully vocal about something such as this...

11. Comming soon to a city/town/village near you:

Here you see actors posing as American civilians in a military dention camp. The actors were told to beg for food and to loudly declare that their rights were being violated, meanwhile the military loudspeakers blared "civil disobedience will not be tolerated."

13. Not necessarily the most reliable source, but:
http://www.infowars.com/martiallaw.html

and There was also a documentary where they talked to the mayor of a town after military exercises were done in the town, as well as a little bit of footage of the nighttime patrols they were doing.

15. Screw that, get them the hell out of town...
They can't just blow into a town and shoot blanks, even if they're forewarned.

You can't tell me that there isn't an urban warfare center within a six-hour bus ride of their base. If not, so what? They have bases, let them train there.

Total bullshit. I'd run that way up the flagpole.

Then why are they sneaking about @5:00am and covering their faces?

Their hiding their faces because these actions are ILLEGAL and they are ultimately about you, not Iraqis.

Thats all. lol (remeber, bush himself wanted to use the bird flu as pretext for lartial law....people screamed about that, but the fact that our president is even considering it is scary)
