What do you think of Alan Colmes?
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 06:07 AM by Cascadian
Although the guy is intelligent, I find him to be nothing more than a well-paid "punching bag" to Sean Insanity. This is the very guy Faux News wants to portray as a supposed "bleeding-heart" liberal. Plus, he seems too cosey to the flying monkey right. I recall seeing a photo online (I wished it was still floating around the web!) of Colmes standing with Dick and Lynne Cheney at a Christmas Party at the Veep's residence. I guess there is something about that I find incredibly creepy and suspect about Colmes.

Just my take. Your turn!

John

3. Loathsome Colmes
From "The BEAST 50 Most Loathsome People, 2004"

21. Alan Colmes

Crimes: An angry conservative’s wet dream: an effete liberal dive artist. As a professional doormat, Colmes’ only tasks are to serve as a comforting aggregate of Republican stereotypes about Democrats and a target for the seething derision of his psychotic guests. Stands idly by while voracious green-blooded co-host utilizes Gestapo tactics against centrist Democrats.

Smoking Gun: His cringe-inducing new book reads like a crappy internet parody ("I'm proud to be a liberal. In my spare time I hug trees. I'd rather hug a tree than embrace a tax cut… Ever try to hug a tax rebate check? Bark burn is so much more pleasant than paper cuts.")

Punishment: Suffocated under a naked, sweaty Rush Limbaugh.

colmes is a dummy in the chair to give the appearance of "Fair and balanced"

might as well just put a sign on his seat that says "Insert opposite view here"

8. Not even
Colmes' view is usually a sad compromise between Hannity's quasi-fascist extremes and a real leftist position. Their show moves the ideological goalposts all the way to the right, so that the middle is "far left." It's maybe the worst show out there.

11. I don't ever watch it either!
I saw him as I surfed past FOX a time or two, before I removed them from my cable box thingy. I xed out shit like FOX, CNN and The TV Preachers. I can't wait for the cable company to give us a choice of not paying for anything, but the channels we want to watch. I don't even watch FOX sports anymore, I hate the idiots so much!

I don't have them blocked. I have Dish Network, fortunately, so I get Link TV and Free Speech TV.
I don't surf much, except for weekends, when there tends to be crapolla TV.

12. In defense of Alan Colmes.
I've been listening to him since WEVD days (radio station in NYC). He had and has a radio program that he hosts. He has guests of all political and social persuasions. He is MUCH different when he is alone and does his own show. He is entertaining, witty, insightful, and at times, compelling.

My theory of why he's like he is on FOX with Insanity: It must be in his contract to be a certain why or he's off the air. For a while between WEVD and FOX Network, that was his only gigue. And as much as I don't believe in "selling out", I understand how Alan got into the situation he's in at FOX. I do wish he'd quit and let Sean really and other really get a true profile of Alan on the air.

15. Faux News Channel keeps trying to convince me he's a liberal.
If he is, he sure is a pliable one. He's a wuss. He never really disagrees with Sean Hannibal, so I think he's plays Faux' stereotype of a liberal on television and is probabbly "one of them" in real life.

19. He agrees with Hannity all the time...
and never really makes any compelling argument against Hannity's relentless BS. His sole purpose is to show the RW sheep that even a "hardcore liberal" will come around thanks to the bulletproof reason of the right. :puke:

25. Very close!
He can be intelligent, but his duties are to succumb to the powerful, pushy right. I once saw him admitting that Sean and he were friends and they hang out together and barbeque and stuff. That threw me- I would never hang around with my abuser and someone so far from my beliefs- I guess they laugh all the way to the bank together.
I was going to state - Pantywaist- but didn't want to offend anyone!
Maybe Pushover would be better.

Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 08:39 AM by fujiyama
He was talking about the show and said "Hannity and...ah, what's the point".

His meek minded manner reminds me a lot of Tom Daschle - probably not a bad guy, but extremey weak and ineffective.

22. A disgusting toady, a gutless worm
He is the Jew who plaeds for the scraps from the Nazi table, and is rewarded with a larger ration and the right to carry a billy club in the exercise yard. He even gets to clout the other Jews when they get out of line, if he so chooses.

His kind exist in ever race, creed and color. They are ALWAYS loathesome and disgusting, without exception.

24. He's okay when he's alone on the radio -- but no match for Hannity
He's been onthe radio for a long time. He's sort of a holdover from the 80's and 90's, when things were slightly less angry and polarized thn they are now....In addition to solo shows he has teamed up with conservatives at other points in his radio career, but not extreme yellers like Hannity.

In his older radio shows he was less wussy than he is on Fox.He actually tended to stick to his guns more.

I think the problem is that on Fox he seems to robotically repeat supposed liberal positions, while Hannity has free rein to rant and rave and yell. In terms of sheer volume, he's outgunned. Plus he tends to be a "reasonable" liberal, which means that unlike Hannity, he doesn't always stik to the party line.

Plus his looks don't help. I hate to say that, because how many of us are glamourpusses? But he does look like a entrl Casting caricture of the "effite liberal intellectual" while Hannity looks like the All American boy.

27. Sean Hannity *chose* Colmes. That tells you everything you need to know.
Colmes is a moderate Democrat at best- probably more of a moderate Republican. And he's an utter wimp to boot. Hannity chose him because he can be sure that Colmes will never challenge his obvious bullshit.

just the visuals alone -- handsome, head of hair Hannity... dweeby Alan Colmes.

This is done deliberately. If Colmes were a true liberal, he'd take himself off the air. He should stick to radio.
