Carville and Begala on CSPAN2 10pm Take It Back: Our Party, Our Country..
Take It Back: Our Party, Our Country, Our Future

From Publishers Weekly
An intelligent, carefully outlined strategy to seize power from the Republicans and restore it to its rightful place slightly left of center, this book (despite Carville's "Ragin' Cajun" claim to gonzo liberalism) is remarkably reasonable and cleverly calculated to appeal to a broad spectrum of Americans. Carville and Begala have a solid grasp of the issues that concern the majority of citizens: moral values, political corruption, taxes, health care, energy issues and, of course, the war in Iraq. They are most persuasive when arguing for seemingly common-sense policies: their energy plan-conservation, environmental remediation and making a "real commitment to alternative fuels"-is based on the handling of the energy crisis of the 1970s that saw the U.S. cut energy use and oil imports while growing the GDP. Regarding health care, the authors argue for allowing employers to buy into the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program, which offers 180 different plans to 9 million government employees. Some of the authors' arguments are harder to swallow; for example, the extremely speculative notion that had Al Gore been elected president, 9/11 could have been averted. And criticism of Republican leadership often devolves into name-calling and mudslinging. (Jack Abramoff, in a stroke of timely luck, receives his own section titled "The King of Republican Sleaze.") That aside, Carville's and Begala's book is a refreshing entry into a field long overcrowded by polarized, pedantic screeds.

3. A Carville and Begala recommendation
Last week, one of the blogs reminded us that, in 2000, before Gore selected Lieberman, Carville and Begala wrote a letter to Gore recommending that he select that great Georgia Senator, Zell Miller, as his Vice Presidential candidate.

I think that is worth noting.

5. They were also in on the masacre of
Howard Dean. Okay? Who's laughing now. No. I have no use for their opinions.

6. Ignore these losers
Carville is nothing but a whipped windbag as his 41 (!) appearances on Meet the Pumpkin headed bulgy Eyed Whore with his hag wife and their tired act will attest. Beluga lost me when he ducked under a desk to show his displeasure with Cynthia McKinney's condemnation of * and spent a half hour kissing Ted (crapped his pants to avoid going to Nam) Nugent's ass. These two are the epitome of scared beltway dems and their idea of showing "toughness" is to agree with everything * proposes or demands.

11. Carville
Carville in my opinion represents views that the mainstream independents such as myself have. We dislike the Repubs because they understand NOTHING about average working folks but we also dislike Dems because they either have no plan or seem to have a gutless pollyannish view of some utopia that can never be.
I'd fight by the side of the likes of Carville because he is not politically correct or the least bit squeamish. But until the Dems come up with someone with some courage I'll remain independent or apolitical.
I thing my thoughts represent a great many people.

If you want to stick around, you may want to rethink praising Carville. Just a little friendly advice.

Welcome to DU :hi:

I'll think on my own. Just a little not so friendly advice.

27. Brief
I am surprised that you Dems have adopted the all or nothing mantra of the right wingers.
I happen to have enjoyed brief Carville's bit on TV tonight but because I don't toe the party line about some hard on you have for the man I am not welcome?

Is independent thought discouraged in DU?

16. I'm an Independent too... well I was
I've re-registered as a Democrat because that's the most effective way to fight the B*sh Cabal, and I agree with most Democrats 80% of the time.

Carville in NO WAY represents my views. He seems to go right along with the DLC.. and they do NOT speak for me.

29. Carville is not a Democratic leader. He is a strategist.
He is paid for it. Heck a lot of the people praising his bald head don't realize he worked with Chavez's opposition in Venezuela.

He is paid for his work.

19. If he is still a "consultant"
to ANY Dem, I want to know about it. Yes. His advice is certainly, stick your head in the sand and make fun of anything a LIBERAL stands for. Not my idea of sound advice.

8. They came a little late to the party, didn't they? And that
left of center strategy has worked so well for the last two elections. We need universal single payer health care in this country not more profits for the insurance companies, which is what the Federal Employees Benefit program consists of.

I mean, could any of you have sex with AND MARRY a right wing extremist fascist, then pretend you're a liberal? Oh puhhleez. If you believe that, I've got some swampland I'd like to get rid of...

13. I didn't agree with everything they said, but they said a lot of good
stuff!

The difference between the Pubs & the Dems?
Dems use power in the interest of the people.
Pubs use people in the interest of power.

Every man for himself is the last command of a failed ship captain.

The job of Congress is to ask tough questions, NOT name committees to do so.

A good Dem candidate not only has to be able to tak the fire aimed at him/her but be able to throw a good punch!

I guess you folks must have watched a different program than I did, but I thought they did a GREAT job! Did you hear Begala talk about the bumper stickers in W Va that said Dems will take away your bible? He said the Kerry/Edwards campaign put out a press release. Do you know what Clinton would have done? He'd have gone to Morgantown and waved his bible in the air and said "I will never take this book from you! I believe in this book every bit as much as you do!" That's GREAT advise! Why are you so against Carvell and Begala? They're not right on everything, but they were right more often than wrong!!!!

17. A lot of us have trouble forgetting them on Crossfire during the primaries
It was horrible what they did to Dean over and over. It is hard to forget things like that.

In this VPR Dean interview, the host quotes some things from their book. They were verbatim from Dean's campaign. About 35 minutes in on this audio. He said should they give me royalties...joking sort of.

Scroll down about halfway.

I try to forget the primaries, but with those two it is very hard. They bashed Dean almost daily on Crossfire, it was horrible.

26. I'm not asking you to forget what they did in the past, but when
you listen to what they are saying now, and not talking about any specific candidates, they really do have good opinions. Hate THEM if you wish, but their suggestions are valid and I think deserve attention.

28. Their suggestions are almost exactly what Dean said in 03
It is really too hard to get a level head about them after that. There was no excuse for it.

They in their book according to what I heard repeat talking points used by Dean effectively.

When two men go on TV day after day and totally destroy a person, it is hard to forgive.
