VIDEO- that Punk WAS flipping off Feingold - Take Two
Went back and looked and he flipped off Feingold multiple times

In this compile, which I didn't do transitions on, you can see how he looks around to see if anyone is watching and then brings his hand up. I also threw in two bits where it's his index finger or his entire hand, so you can see the difference. He's CLEARLY watching to see if he can get away with it.

First video clip on CanOFun is here-short, last flip off

all of the boys would try to do something like this guy did whenever their picture was being taken. It meant major points if your "bird" made the yearbook. You would put your middle finger in your eye, scratch your nose, your knee, etc. and hope that the prinicpal missed it when he vetted all of the photos. This moran is truly adolescent.

It was 100% visible, unquestionable and apparent in the original tv feed that was shown on Olbermann etc... When viewing it on tv instead of online, it was so easily identifiable as his thumb it wasn't even funny.

three times as you say, but he also has several full hand, and several first finger gestures too. While I did see him checking to see if the woman across from him was looking, she never did...

In other words: Maybe. I am not convinced.

Not a shred of doubt in my mind that it is just innocent boredom. None in my mind whatsoever.

Obviously, most are going to disagree with me. But I'm attempting to be as objective and realistic as possible, and under that mindset don't think for a second this guy was doing anything with intent at all.

31. Thanks OMC - I just don't see the body language I would expect to see if
he were really flipping Feingold off. He seems to me to be a "restless hand" guy -- he made, basically, all possibly hand motions one could make with 1, 2, 4 and 5 fingers --

And peace to all who see more -- let me know if you identify the guy -- I'd love to know if he is a Feingold staffer --

51. I have rarely been so distracted by such hostile body language
The guy was disrespectful in so many ways. Covering his eyes in a "what a stupid tedious jerk" display etc.

The finger thing was positively junior high - that's just how a kid would do it - within an unnatural flurry of other "cover" movements.

52. Let's put it this way -IF it is one of Feingold's staff, then Feingold
needs to have a talk with him about being a distraction during important addressess. You should never have a background diversion like that where people would even *wonder* what the meaning of someone's gestures are.

I remember when Hillary Clinton was in a hearing recently and the guy behind her seemed to have forgotten his ADHD pills that day.

68. I think it was an intern
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 09:16 PM by Marie26
Based on...nothing really. His attitude, his boredom, his total disregard for what Feingold was saying. I think it was some punk kid who was tired & bored & didn't care who knew. To me, it doesn't seem like he's really reacting to Feingold's speech; actually, he doesn't seem to be paying attention at all. Instead, he looks around, checks out the woman next to him, gets bored, starts fidgeting, randomly flips through papers, & tries to stay awake. He looks like a student at the end of a 3-hour lecture.

And here is the definitive proof: he was wearing a blue pass. This is the pass that interns who have access to the White House wear. I don't know if this guy was a White House intern, or if the Senate has the same pass. But it does look very similar to an intern's pass. Notice that the actual staffer to his right doesn't have the same passes. So, that's my speculative opinion on this vital national issue.

55. well, it wasn't exactly directly behind
I did find the rules on staff/senate/floor:

FLOOR ACCESS RULES:

* Former Members are prohibited from being on the floor (including the Speaker's Lobby and cloakrooms) if any matter in which they have a personal or pecuniary interest or are employed or retained as a lobbyist is pending before the House. Matters are considered pending once full or subcommittee hearings have been held, or once a bill or resolution has been called up by a full or subcommittee.

* Committee staff are permitted on the floor only during the consideration of measures reported from their committees. A maximum of five committee staff (for the majority and minority) is permitted.

* Personal staff are not permitted on the floor of the House except when their Member has an amendment actually pending under the five-minute rule. A Member offering an amendment under the five-minute rule may be accompanied by one personal staff Member.

* Staff are not permitted to pass out literature or otherwise attempt to influence Members or their votes.

63. Well usually
any other staffers on the floor are way up in the back, and the Republican staffers are on the Republican side and the Democrat staffers are on the Democrat side. I just happen to be a C-Spanaholic, and watch the Senate and House daily, and this is how it works.

79. They only sit directly behind them in Committee. This is
the Senate floor, anybody can sit anywhere.

53. He could have been giving the finger to the woman sitting to his left out
of screen. It seems that everytime he did it, at least that I saw it was aimed in that direction. When his hands were in the front he had all of his fingers extended, but as soon as they went to the side the middle finger went straight up. She was the person he seemed to be concerned about when he was looking around.

If so, maybe she was a repuke and he was telling her to shove it whenever the constitutional issue came up. Either way this is a Cheney moment for somebody.

Just saying, complete conjecture on my part.

70. I don't think so
Just based on his body language. A Feingold staffer would've been paying more attention to this speech. This guy did not even look at Feingold.

71. I didn' t think so either but I thought that staffers sat behind their
Senators and were divided by the aisle. So if he isn't a Feingold staffer then he may be another dem staffer. If so, then my guess is we won't be seeing this man anytime soon sitting on that side of the aisle.

76. Two things.... (my 2 cents)
- What does that blue ID represent? And why isn't the female aide wearing one?
- If you notice the female aide leaves at around midpoint of the speech. Did she notice too? Was the man directing it at her?

81. Anyone ever figure out who this guy is? Do I need to drive to dc?
come on...someone has to know him or see him on c-span occasionally.

Where's the logs of the senate so I can see who was there that day?
