Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 10:50 AM by The Backlash Cometh
(1) Against foreign control of our ports.
(2) Better control over our borders to reduce illegal immigration.
(3) Testing of meat for mad cow and generally better oversight over our food industry.
(4) Better Federal Response for Emergencies and ensure that competent people are in charge. Priorities: Weather response warnings and preparation for a possible bird flu epidemic.
(5) Improve Wages.
(6) Accountability for the last five years of corruption in government. Transparency so we can find out who was really behind 9/11.
(7) Protect public resources from connected private cronies.
(8) Medical cures and vaccines will not be withheld from the public for religious reasons. i.e. vaccine for cervical cancer.

Added by other DUers:
(9) Stem Cell research approved.
(10) Add/protect non-service related jobs.
(11) put in check Out of control Spending/Budget Crisis
(12) balance of trade deficit
(13) Lower Energy costs, put more money into energy research
(14) Education costs cuts
(15) Better Health Care -- look into Universal Health Care
(16) Prescription Drug Plan for Seniors
(17) Bring back protection of the environment, clean air, clean water...

2. Number 7 is a winner
People understand the issue quite clearly. Cronyism and nepotism is rampant in this administration and the GOP as a whole. Competence is key for Democrats, not connections.

Competence, not connections. Good bumper sticker.

4. Per your number six
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 10:05 AM by BOSSHOG
Potential dem candidates who happen to be U. S. Senators today can take care of this one very easily by voting for Senator Feingolds move to censure or let him have that heavy weight issue all to himself. I can not contemplate any rationale not to support this measure. Republicans aren't saying bush was right or what he did was legal, they are saying we are at war. Its almost as if one might think they got us into war on purpose so they could take this argument to their ignorant constitution hating base.

I'd also like to see the democratic party propose banning divorce to maintain the sanctity of marriage if for no other reason than to fuck with the minds of bible thumpers.

Strong support of Roe V Wade. The only reason it may be in jeopardy is because the zealots are much louder, but their numbers are much smaller than mainstream americans. I think its a winning stand.

Thanks for the post.

7. these are good because they are new initiatives
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 10:19 AM by FLDem5
and Dems are always accused of only complaining.

I think the time is ripe for national healthcare - if only because it can be shown in the light of helping keep and create jobs here. Subtract healthcare costs from budgets, and our prices become more competitive.

8. reinstate lax environmental protection
We have the brilliant AL GORE as a spokesperson.... perhaps after a record hurricane season people can take the role of human destruction of the environment and the atmosphere.

But I think the strongest argument we have is Minimum Wage, how far behind inflation is it????

12. Then let's not give them an excuse that will help them steal the next
election. They can't say the Dems didn't have strong, appealing issues. They're right up there. It's up to them to communicate and connect.
