Feingold - one man standing up and speaking out
There's alot of blather going on about how Feingold censure was a disaster.

as for me - I see it as a step forward. Finally, someone was willing to stand up, speak out and hold bush* accountable. But this has been lost amid the repug spin that Feingold is unpatriotic, that he shouldn't be criticizing bush* during a time of war

so I ask - if not now - then when? It's easy to join the choir and support bush*, all you have to do is recite the talking points and drink the kool-aid

It's more difficult to stand up - alone - and demand answers. This takes courage and a willingness to lead.

For the past 5 years we've been subjected to the "shut up and wave the flag" mentality. We've seen person after person stand up, only to have them sit down and apologize. Well - Feingold is not sitting down, he's not going to shut up and I hope to God he doesn't apologize.

I will be sending him a letter - thanking him for his courage. I hope some of you will do the same.

1. MUST READ: A Peculiar Politician

A Peculiar Politician

Senator Russ Feingold is an embarrassment to the US Senate, which makes him an authentic hero of the Republic. The Wisconsin senator gets up and says out loud what half of the country is thinking and talks about every day. This President broke the law and lied about it; he trashed the Constitution and hides himself in the flag. Feingold asks: Shouldn't the Senate say something about this, at least express our disapproval? He introduces a resolution of censure and calls for debate.

amazing stuff, especially how politics trumps principle every time.

"The real story--naturally overlooked by cynical editors--is that an honest truth-teller is loose in the fun house and disturbing the clowns. Man bites dog, senator defends Constitution."

It belongs on the frontpage!

2. I have already written him a letter of support
I am so disgusted with the democratic party as a whole. They have become a bunch of losers, and I mean that in a much braoder term

If they DO NOT SUPPORT THIS CENSURE, THEN THEY APPROVE THE SPYING ON AMERICANS, and frankly NADER IS RIGHT, there is very little difference between the two parties

Let the idiots who have guided this party from one failure to another push hilliary in 2008, and watch us go down in flames

We never learn

Murtha said it best, the people are so far ahead of the politicians it makes your head swim

I will only hope that Feingold runs in 2008

I will be sending another contribution to Ned Lamont tomorrow in his run against Liberman

One way or another, these bastards who have destroyed the democratic party will be voted out

4. something else to think about
just a week ago we saw the results of the uproar over Dubai port deal (I know it's still up in the air via some backdoor deal) -- however look at the power of the people that was brought down on Congress when we demanded action

if we can channel that same outrage, that same determination, that same power to hold bush* accountable then we can make a difference. All it took were e-mails, phone calls, and faxes demanding action

it's an election year, bush*'s numbers are in the toilet, his coat tails are shredded - republicans only have fear to grab on to and a flag to stuff in the mouths of those who voice opposition

this is more than just wire-tapping - it's holding bush* accountable.

6. My letter to Senator Russ Feingold
Thank-you for speaking out and introducing the resolution to censure President Bush.

For too long Congress has avoided their responsibility to hold the Bush administration accountable.

I find it ironic you are being criticized for speaking out. It's been said your call for censure sends the wrong message to terrorists. President Bush has repeatedly said terrorists hate our freedoms. I fail to understand how exercising freedom, and holding President Bush accountable for violating those same freedoms is sending a wrong message. In fact, it sends the right message about how a democracy should work -- where leaders are held accountable for their actions, when speaking out does not mean being imprisoned, where the people are heard.

The strength of a democracy is measured by the freedom of citizens to express support or opposition of a government - be it in times of peace or war.

Our strength as a democracy is being undermined by the repeated efforts of the Republican Party and the Bush Administration to silence all opposition.

8. I'm FOR Feingold's censure - I don't like that he has taken to dumping on
impeachment to sell it. In my view he could have sold censure without the references to impeachment.

11. Boxer and Harkin are standing up with Feingold.
This may all be symbolic but it has blocked the RW from passing a Bill that would make warrentless spying on Americans legal, at least for now. The RW wants to ignore the violations of Law by Bush and the Regime. Feingold is bringing attention to the fact that the Pres. and NSA have violated the FISA Law many times and are still doing so. The Senate cannot bring forth Impeacment. The House must do so. Censure is being discussed in a Committe. It may not be acted upon but that is not the most important point. The important point is that the public is finally getting information that the Bush Regime are a nest of criminals that are destroying America bit by bit.
