New Computer Virus Expected To Hit In January
Dec 28, 2005, 06:23 PM PST

A new computer virus is expected to hit in January and infect millions of computers worldwide, including right here in Richmond. Computer security analysts warn it is too late to stop it, as millions of computers may already be infected with the worm which is waiting dormant until next week to unleash a wave of politically motivated e-mail to coincide with the January 5th founding of the Nazi Party back in 1919. This version of the sober worm virus is being passed around as an email attachment, possibly claiming to be from the FBI or CIA and has the potential to cripple personal computers and everyone in your computer's e-mail contact list.

We spoke with a local computer expert, about what you can do to protect yourself. He recommends finding out if your computer has already been infected by the "sober worm" by running anti-virus software. He says, "The best thing (people) can do is make sure their anti-virus definitions are current and perform a full system scan and probably do it before and after the January 5th deadline."

5. Remember those FBI Illegal sites emails?
According to Symantec's site, they list this email as one that might have been spreading this worm.

"Dear Sir/Madam,
we have logged your IP-address on more than 30 illegal Websites.lease answer our questions!
The list of questions are attached.
Yours faithfully,
Steven Allison
