WOW! 200,000 overnight for censure. [MoveOn.org petition]
This just came in my email box:

Dear MoveOn member,

Since yesterday afternoon, when we launched the petition, over 200,000 of us signed up to support Senator Russ Feingold's call to censure President Bush for his illegal wiretapping. Now, Republicans are on the attack—Senator Wayne Allard (R-CO) even accused Feingold of "siding with the terrorists,"1 and the Republican National Committee is mounting a petition against him.

We've got to work quickly to show other senators and the media that hundreds of thousands of us support Senator Feingold and the rule of law. So, we're increasing our goal: we want to get 350,000 signers by the end of the week. Can you sign our petition asking Congress to censure President Bush for his illegal wiretapping?

http://political.moveon.org/censure?id=7043-3325316-VylzY2D6IKAvIpQ65wCHqw&t=1

And can you pass this on to friends and family and ask them to sign, too? If we reach our goal, we'll personally deliver your comments to your senators to show them how much this issue matters to their constituents. And we'll send all 350,000 signatures and comments to Senator Feingold to show our support for his leadership.

they opened up a front supporting the terrorists at home. Nice way to watch their heads spin.

6. more from the letter
The Bush administration is illegally refusing to use the FISA court which was set up just for the purpose of overseeing domestic wiretapping. This court approves virtually all of the wiretapping requests it receives, in fact, its only denied a warrant four times in its entire history.2 Why does the GOP think the president should be above the law? It's certainly not about terrorism. It's about power.

Below is the email we sent out yesterday outlining why we think it's important to support Senator Feingold's call to censure President Bush.

Thanks for all you do,

Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 01:43 PM by wordpix2
Russ Feingold is no slouch, he's not fooling around and he's documented every reason for censure.
Very quick read: it's double spaced and to the point.

and hit that deliver button! I'm tired of sitting by the wayside afraid. Afraid of what, I asked myself last night. I'm an American, until they tell me otherwise, I refuse to give-in to the neo-con's who have hi-jacked my country! And, I want my Senators to know (since their lines are ringing busy and I can barely get through) that this Democrat has had enough. Stand-up with Feingold as I do, and everyone I know. If not, I don't think the Democrats will ever win again.

Spine. It's called having spine enough to stand-up and speak the truth loudly if its the only way to be heard.

Shew. Held it in for too long, lurk-reading in the background. Now, I fully expect some strange calls to ring-in on my phone, like some strange group called "The Jones Boys." Anyone else getting strange calls after posting here online? Whatever. I no longer care. No more fear! Feingold, Gore, Conyers, Kerry, Edwards and Kennedy have taught me that.

Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 07:17 PM by Seabiscuit
"Failure to vociferously support Senator Feingold's censure resolution demonstrates a lack of respect for the law. FISA has been violated countless times by the current resident of the White House, each felonious act incurring a 5 year prison term. How can a single representative of the people in Congress sit idly by while this goes on? Do you think you can afford to? The whole world is watching and will never forget what you do or fail to do."

68. Email from the DCCC
Shortly after signing this petition, I received a fundraising email from the DCCC, penned by Senator Clinton. In it she mentions all the really vital, important issues of the day that will drive the next election. Healthcare costs, Katrina recovery, etc.

Not once, no where in that message, does she mention the Iraq war, holding goverment accountable to the law, or any of another handful of issues I can think of off the top of my head that are far more important to our well-being as a nation than the ones she mentioned, as important as they are in their own right.

As someone said, this next election should be all about accountability. The Iraq war, holding the president (all of government) accountable under to the law, voter and information rights, etc. Anywho, here was my response:
Dear Senator Clinton,

In my humble opinion, you are not capable of providing the leadership we need. You are unwilling to stand up to the GOP and fight for our republic. I see no mention in your message about the issues that are even more pressing, such as the Iraq war, a president and his administration who are not held accountable for breaking the law or voter fraud. You say nothing about how you will handle national security. The pillars of our government are being undermined every day, yet you and most of the DCCC/DLC do not have the courage to fight, to stand on real principles.

I will be donating money to Democrats, for at least one more election cycle. I will not however be donating to an organizations such as the DCCC, but rather directly to candidates I feel I can trust to fight for real, substantive change in how our government is run. Candidates who will fight for the people, who aren't afraid to stand up to the GOP. Candidates who have a true voice. I, and most Democrats I know, will not be looking for candidates based on whether or not they are liberal, centrist or conservative. But only on two basic questions:

1) Do they stand by core, traditional Democratic values, like some of the ones you mentioned in your email message. Labor rights, the environment, education and civil rights. Differences in the how are to be expected and encouraged, as long as the core principle values are the same.

2) Are they willing to talk about difficult issues? Are they willing to criticize the administration, and strongly, on the issues where they are plainly, morally wrong? Even if I disagree with them on some points, do they show the courage it will take to speak out and change the way things have been working, or rather FAILING, in D.C.?

What you and your organization don't seem capable of realizing, is that Americans see right through you. You have lost all real sense of purpose or standing. The left wont vote for you because you wont fight for the things that matter most to them, and the center wont vote for you because you just plain wont fight. You roll over and play dead on all the major issues. You avoid the hard fights and go for the easy domestic issues you think will save you.

You are wrong. And while you keep marching to that same, tired drum beat, election after election, you will somehow manage to continue to loose. You are failing not only your own party, but all of America, which desperately needs some sense, some balance, in our government. We demand accountability, and you either don't have the courage to provide it, or have forgotten what it means entirely!

Sincerely,

70. Will it really do any good
I know I'm turning into the greatest pessimist on earth, but I honestly think if we got a couple MILLION signatures, the Dems would still go "ho-hum, how dare we buck the system when we don't have a majority" and the Repubs would say "Hey, we've got the numbers and we don't have to listen."
All the while, we the people will stand out here and scream while our "representatives" totally ignore us. :banghead:
