Poll question: Will you still use Google???
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 04:22 PM by Nutmegger
After the ruling yesterday that Google has to hand over search results, I figure this would be an interesting question to pose.

Personally, I've been using Scroogle more and more but won't stop using Google completely.

On a side note, how many think the "protecting children from porn" is a bunch of BS???

18. Vivisimo Is Behind Them
Vivisimo (http://vivisimo.com/) is behind Clusty. Clusty's an outgrowth of the clustering technology in Vivisimo. I do a LOT of research, and I use Vivisimo 90% of the time. THey're a Pittsburgh-based company that was a start-up by some kids from Carnegie-Mellon University. As for their political leanings, I don't know. All I know is that they're better than Google because the clustering helps you sort out the non-relevant information.

BTW, Clusty offers a Privacy Statement http://clusty.com/privacy on their website.

7. From what I have read
it looks like a deal is going to be made. The feds will get a random sampling instead of the whole lot.

5. Yes, I will continue to use the best.. as for kiddie fuckers
DOJ should get and receive all hits regarding kiddie fuckers only. DOJ need to state with specificity only
kiddie porn hits and stay the fuck out of my 911 searches, plamegate, iraqgate, spygate, deficitgate,.Its just a smoke screen to go phifishing for all us REAL AMERICANS. Stupid gopers/freeps say to me "if you have nothing to hide why not allow King George the Imbecile to look you over?" I say," I don't have anything to hide and will not trade my privacy for fake safety". I'd sooner allow myself to be killed by a terrorist than allow King George the Imbecile to look over my life,my family,my friends, or even their lives.
If bush is watching," I just flipped him the finger, cheney too!!".
Is it difficult to put together all searches for kiddie porn? Yes? No?

13. It's my understanding that they aren't looking for kiddie porn, they
are trying to see how easy it is for children to access porn while on the internet.

"The government is seeking the records as part of another ongoing court case, in which the Bush administration is attempting to strengthen the laws that keep Internet pornography out of the hands of underage Web surfers. The DOJ claims Google is overreacting because it’s not seeking any personal data or information on trade secrets."

I don't have young children using my computer, but aren't there filters and other ways that parents can block access to this type of site from their children? Is this really an appropriate place for the DOJ to be snooping?

20. There is plenty of "T & A's" on cable and network TV
why not start there. I also have no youngsters looking at my computer. DOJ wants to spy on the left, we Democrats pose the greatest threat to King George the Imbecile.
Its phifishing at its worst. I object and will continue to object. Even if bubba floated this idea I'd be against him too.
Can we protest or do we have to wait until November? Granny, I see you can't be fooled by these liars, thieves and muderers...
BTW, I live on NYC home of ground zero where once 2 mighty buildings stood. Now its an empty pit. sad,

9. Of course the child porn angle is bullshit
They're not going to sit quietly by and continue to allow the Internet to continue to undermine them. This is only the first step towards rendering it ineffective by November 2008 if not sooner.

12. Many of the FReepers were outraged by this and questioned the child porn
angle. Their minder couldn't shut them up. THEY SOUNDED LIKE DUers!!!!

Maybe we should invite some to visit. Same with the Ports. We need every person we can get to fight the bush nazis so if these Aspens are turning, let them all turn together. Even if people are enemies, if a greater enemy locks them up they will band together to break down the door.

Think about it. A nasty "librul" hating FReeper on AOL was obviously really freaked by all the posts expressing fear and outrage about the Detainee camps.

21. DoJ looking in the wrong place for child porn; it's on Usenet.
And a ton of other places as well on the Internet, but AFAIK Google filters for child porn anyway...

I guess the DoJ is just trying to get the records on who searched for the words "child porn". If that's the case then I urge every DUer to search the term "Child Porn" on Google and wait for the Feds to show up.

Mark.

11. I put that I didn't care because it seems like the courts will force
compliance with what the British newspapers call Rumsfeld's war on the Internet http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4655196.stm and they plans do sound like military objectives. AOL, Yahoo and others voluntarily complied, is there any chance that Google will try to continue fighting the order or can they?

==Something fishy is going on with Progressive talk shows getting shut down You have the 2 Air America stations recently and Ed Schultz leaving his Fargo affiliate. This seems like some coordinated manuver by the fundamental Christian groups from out West. Now I am listening to Doug Basham and he said his Las Vegas affiliate has a Christian program in place of his show without notifying him.

Maybe I am too suspicious but this seems to be a little too much to be a coincidence. We are talking about 4 examples now in a matter of only a few days. Does anyone know how common this is or if it is going on in more places?

about the cut-off point.

Lies, theft, mis-use, abuse, torture, deficit, spying are all OK, but porn or abortion are not OK.

I think every site that promotes, defends, and sells the crimes of this admin should be required to post with a .GWB appendix. Those fighting it should have .SVC for save the country or save the constitution.

19. Doesn't Google maintain these search results
for a very long time? I thought I read somewhere that they keep these records forever... (sorry, no link) Wouldn't this problem be moot if they didn't keep these records? I know Big Brother BushCo wouldn't like it, and it would blow Google's advertising revenue model to crap, but isn't this a problem and a threat to our privacy because Google keeps these records in the first place?
