I made a tactical retreat today on writing a letter to the editor....
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 02:34 AM by Gloria
After two days of debating with myself, I decided NOT to write a letter to the editor in response to a "nurse" who was decrying "partial birth abortion." I figured that a "nurse" shouldn't be promulgating false info--as in, there is no such medical terminology and it is NOT an "on demand" service late in pregnancy. It upset me to see this crap. But, today, someone called the "SoundOff line", which is anonymnous, expressing a fear of having their name published if they did write a letter...a fear that someone would track them down.

So, that got me thinking: the partial birth abortion thing is already at the Court; NARAL doesn't say boo.....so why should I risk my personal safety?? Not to mention I see Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sandra Day O'Connor talking about threats from the "fringe elements" of the far right.

So, I decided to sit this one out. Can you blame me??

(Not to mention the whole business has made me a nervous wreck...so, it's a question of being more nervous over addressing the issue or just trying to let it go....which is impossible.)

2. Thank you. I know you're right. You know, I've marched, written
letters, donated for the past 25 years...I'm just strung out over this.

3. It's a hard process, deciding how and where to extend yourself.
Some other way to work this issue will present itself. Some way that works.

That's what we can do.

4. I support your decision.....but....

It's an important message to get out there, especially in LTTEs and other sources that most people look at....and I think the possibility of your "safety" being compromised is negligible.

That said, I fully support your right to decide which fights to take up (and how to take them up). If you talk to ONE other person and make them see things a little differently, you're doing your part.

(BTW, where in NJ?)
