Coastal South Carolina. Up from $2.25 Wednesday for regular to $2.45 Thursday all over the Grand Strand.

What's up with this? Can't be hurricanes this time.

The interesting thing is, the big jump happened the day after the proce of a barrel of crude dropped!

This smells like profiteering to me!!!!!

6. same here in Florida, I heard that there is a chemical that is being taken
out of the gas making process that is gonna cost us about 130,000 barrels a day. I can't remember the name of it(3 or 4 letters in name), but NPR was reporting on it the other day. People were saying that our only hope would be to off set the loss with ethanol, but that seemed like a fantasy based on NPR's reporting.

I don't know if your question has to do with my answer but it is breathtaking to see prices jump $.20-$.30 in one week much less one day.

8. Yes, MTBE is being phased out
I read a story about it on FT.com yesterday. We do not have enough ethonal production to make up the demand right now. This mixed in with the seasonal switch will have us at $2.80-$3.00+ within the next couple of weeks, which is just post-Katrina levels.

10. MTBE!!! thats it - thank you
some of the "experts" in the interview had grave projections on how this will affect gas prices.

We all know how the gas affects everything else in the economy.

Man I hear a big SWOOOSHING sound, the sound of the other shoe about to drop.

This increase in price will cripple some family's budgets.

17. It's March, it always goes up in March around where I live.
I know, that doesn't really answer your question, does it?

Heck if I know - barrels of oil just dropped in price, so gas goes up. What gives?

19. Went up ten cents in Mid Mo
And I think I know why.

It's Spring Break time, when all those college kids get out and drive, drive, drive from the northern climes down to the southern beaches, and the southern college kids drive, drive, drive out to the ski resorts out in the Rockies.

Happens every year.

20. 21 cent jump near Detroit in one night.
About 2 or 3 weeks ago, I was paying $2.09 a gallon. Everything crept back up to $2.35 or $2.40, then it just started jumping overnight. $2.59 at my neighborhood gas station today, $2.38 yesterday.
