CNN - main character in V for Vendetta is a terrorist
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 07:59 PM by sparosnare
They're doing an analysis of the movie; of course the government in the film calls him a terrorist, but is it really fair for our media to promote that meme and take it no further? They're wondering if the movie will change perceptions and allow people to identify with terrorists, without discussing the plot.

IMHO, the main character is an anarchist fighting a fascist government. They don't even bother to explore that component of the film.

and the other patriots of Boston circa 1774 where terrorist's in the British royalties eyes, it's just a matter of which side of the fence you are sitting on. It is telling which side of the fence CNN is sitting on. The whole thing is stupid, it's just a damn movie.

10. One person's Terrorist is another's Freedom Fighter.
Only time will tell which definition is to be proved right.

7. it decries politicians using fear to rule..article St Pete Times Fl
The screenplay stacks the cards in V's favor, with vaguely familiar polemics about strength, unity and faith in God spouted by blustery Chancellor Sutler (John Hurt) and a TV commentator ranting like Bill O'Reilly. Color-coded curfews keep dissent down; the media is a spin-control tool; and a Ministry of Objectionable Materials hides books, works of art, even a jukebox from citizens. Possessing a copy of the Koran is reason for execution, lumping Muslims into the same undesirable group with homosexuals and anyone who disagrees.

"The security of this nation depends upon complete and total compliance,'' Sutler says, and we're urged to hiss.

Such words speak much louder than violent actions in V for Vendetta. This is a film about ideas, not entirely popular ones, that could topple a government faster than bombs if enough people took them to heart. The finale of McTeigue's movie, when V's vendetta spreads to the masses, is so revolutionary that I wondered how this movie ever got made, much less distributed by a major studio (in this case, Warner Bros.).

Does it endorse terrorism? Not as much as it decries politicians using fear to rule. More semantics. The future, the film loudly declares, is now.

Wolf Blitzer was so worried people might change their perception of a terrorist if they see the movie. :eyes:

12. The reicht hates this movie because it shows people their plan
they use fear to rule over people . This movie is all about bush, and how he operates. I thank Hollywood for this brilliant depiction of whats happening in this country.

I could care less what they say. THEY are part of the problem this movie exposes. THEY get exposed.

Watch the trailers y'all and tell me what you think. He is no more a terrorist than the resistance fighters in Europe against the Nazis. It shows you just how corrupt our US media has become....

Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked vigilante known only as "V." Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V urges his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V's mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself--and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plot to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption.
