Hospital holds newborn to insure payment of bill ! ! !
Woman has triplets, hospital unsure if she can pay bill, they let her take 2 babies and keep the third for TWO MONTHS to insure payment!!! WOW.

""The hospital said it was not certain Israel's national insurance would cover the $2,150 (£1,250) treatment bill.

The mother, an Israeli citizen, gave birth to triplets two months ago.

The births were premature and the babies required extensive hospital treatment.

Israeli Arabs, Israeli citizens of Palestinian descent, often complain of discrimination by Israeli institutions. ""

2. Now this is a new low!
What did they plan to do, sell the child into slavery if they couldn't cough up their damned money?

3. Gee, I wonder how you convert a baby into actual money?
What good does it do the hospital to keep a baby...it doesn't...it COSTS them money.

Strange story.

4. as a mother, this story
makes me very queasy......
I wonder what else they do that we don't know about.....
I can't imagine - she must feel frantic to get the money -
so if she only had one baby, they would keep it, too?
Forever?

6. Me too.
My jaw just dropped. That mother had to be frantic. Just beside herself--when she had enough to deal with on her own without this horrible tactic.

This is what happens when you let market forces dictate medical care--everything boils down to money and greed.

5. Wow. I wonder if the father being Palestinian had any bearing
This is very bizarre. Those first months of life are so important!

9. Smells like racism to me
Israel's justice ministry is deciding whether to prosecute a hospital that held a newborn baby for two months as a "guarantee" until a bill was paid.

What is there to "decide"?

Apparently Israel IS in fact another state of the USA.

13. If the woman doesn't cough-up the dough
The hospital shouldn't have too much trouble unloading the infant. I hear slave trade is very alive in the Middle East. UAE is just across the peninsula from Israel.
