Al Qaeda threatens Dubai over cooperation with West
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 11:38 AM by sparosnare
This is NOT new - it's from a letter dated 2002 that has been recently declassified by the US, along with many other documents that will trickle out in the coming weeks. In it, Al Qaeda threatens Arab countries, the UAE and their port city Dubai that if they are friends with the US, they may be targeted by terrorists.

There's also a document that supposedly came from Iraq during Saddam Hussein's regime; they were investigating whether or not 3,000 Iraqis and Saudis had gone to Afghanistan to fight US troops after 9/11. The Pentagon says this document proves there was Al Qaeda in Iraq before we invaded.

Interesting read. The reason for declassification now? Only to serve the purposes of Bushco.

Officials in the UAE have long feared they would be a target of al-Qaida, especially as cities like Dubai have boomed and drawn large numbers of European and Asian tourists.

The Emirates also allows the United States to base U.S. Air Force spy planes and refueling flights on its territory and allows U.S. warships to visit — things that have brought al-Qaida's wrath on other countries, notably Saudi Arabia.

Others believe al-Qaida would be loathe to strike at Dubai because the terror group is thought to use the Emirates' banks to funnel money. Dubai is the Mideast's chief banking center and the site of its busiest airport.

The letter addressed that, saying "our policies are not to operate in your homeland and/or tamper with your security because we are occupied with others, which we consider are enemies of this nation. If you compel us to do so, we are prepared to postpone our program for a short period and allocate time for you."

1. Absolutely
When I read your heading thread I said the same thing. NOTHING they do does not serve their agenda of propaganda. Bushit can now say to the American audience that OUR FRIENDS in the UAE are ALSO being targeted by Al Quaeda because they are FREEDOM LOVING PEOPLE. We need to support anyone that stands up to TERRORISTS. :puke: :sarcasm:

2. Publicity is poison
In actuality, Dubai has strings and finances involved with terrorists that they can use to enhance security- or play extortion games if they chose tog et a little dicier. But being a dishonest broker is not what can be publicly known if it is to work. The banking scandal where all the players, including terrorist and counter terrorist did their dirty money laundering was ruined when it came to light. Oh, that delicate pragmatic balance when seen from the dark basement!

Now this, and it predictable that Al Qaeda is distancing themselves from the two faced threat that plays both sides for profit- a true Bush style outfit. So that makes the American people, about 70%, taking the same side as the terrorists in not trusting Dubai. Being the two groups most likely to suffer and be killed by however Dubai swings, I think in this both are justified.

As for Dubai, both can say: The partial enemy of my enemy is not my friend.
