That's why they want it so badly. It's not the oil--and it's definitely not the WMD. It's to take Iraq off the front pages.

1. Whose going into Iran?
I thought North Korea and Syria were the true challenges. But who knows where Condi saw the possibility of drones or mobile chemical labs. Any line to sucker Americans into their corporatists for profits wars.

3. I haven't seen a day in months when Iran was not a topic by the "media"
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 03:28 AM by linazelle
If you remember the buildup to Iraq, there was lots of discussion--almost a year of talk--before we went in. They're at least 1/4 of a way through the "talk" phase.

If past actions predict future events, then we will go into Iran. It's just a matter of time.

Couple that with the fact that Bush NEEDS to get peoples' minds off Iraq like Rush Limbaugh needs Oxycontin. The polls are murdering ** because of Iraq.

Remember, too, that Bush's approval ratings soared when he went into Iraq.

So going into Iran is a win/win for them. It'll take everybody's minds off Iraq and turn his approval ratings around quickly.

12. I agree their primary reasons for war are to create chaos
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 02:22 PM by leftofthedial
distraction and PR

but the bases in Iraq will be used for the troops and planes that invade Iran.

And so might bases in Afghanistan

(both of those countries border Iran)

so it will be hard to totally ignore them--even for the Murkan corporate media, which has proven it can ignore anything

7. Yes--the profit angle is always arepubliCON issue but there's more
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 03:43 AM by linazelle
to it than that IMHO. All polls point to Iraq as the ONLY reason for **'s 30% ratings. They are desperate. They will strike Iran preemptively to get a poll bounce.

10. ***PETITION TO SIGN: NO WAR WITH IRAN ***
Hello,

For the past year, the growing tensions mounting between the US, Israel, and Iran are reaching a point where military action against Iran is w/in months of becoming reality. The repercussions are terrifying as such military action could involve countries such as China and Russia as they share massive energy/economic interests w/ Iran. The most likely scenario we would face would be the collapse of the US economy as the combination of a massive rise in oil prices and a run on the US dollar would surely be the weapon many countries would use to fight back against a preemptive US or Israeli strike.

For a collection of articles and resources on this subject you can visit this link: http://reseaudesign.com/research/iran/iran_summery.html

I'm starting up a petition which I will be sending out to as many members of Congress as possible. I'm asking for help to get this signed by as many people, possible in the next month. Send it to as many people you can.

http://www.petitiononline.com/n0war1rn/

Also, here is another petition you can sign from another group:
http://stopwaroniran.org/statement.shtml

Thanks for your time

13. It Will. Progressive Economic And Societal Collapse Tends To Take Focus
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 02:49 PM by loindelrio
off foreign entanglements, as ones attention is diverted to daily survival.

ANY attack on Iran, including 'limited' air strikes, would be incompetence rising to the level of treason.

Why? Well, look what is going on now. Almost all of our ground forces are tied down policing 7 M +/- Sunnis in Iraq. What happens if, following 'limited' air strikes, we now find ourselves policing the 15 M Shia in Iraq concurrent with a general uprising in the gulf region? And this is just one way the 'adventure' can go wrong.

How much sense does it make to gamble with 25%+ of the worlds current oil production, and 70% of it's reserves, not to mention a nearly equal proportion of natural gas? Without deployment of an adequate ground force (500k+, far exceeding all capabilities without a draft), economic collapse of the western economies will be a real possibility within six months of the first bomb falling.

”Never, Never, Never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events.”

- Sir Winston Churchill

I keep repeating the above quote because it describes the unpredictable nature of war, as history has bore out, so well. Sane leaders do not embank on wars of choice unless measures have been taken to mitigate all reasonable probabilities.

"sane men"...

Unfortunately, you know that we don't have them in charge.
